so yeah, the new shotgun is awful in its base mode lol

3 shot clip, it does have slightly longer range but I think thats partially negated by that shitty clip. with that ammo upgrade for shotgun it might be better.

And I see on the Cerberus News Network at the start about some planet + comet collision, is this some new quest/mission?

The news network has been about this comet for about a week now. First it was stated that the comet would pass by with no collateral damage done. Then the news started reporting that it would pass close enough to cause a meteor shower and everyone on the planet was freaking out. I don't know what the status is right now, but if it is going to be a DLC mission or something then they've been building up to it for a while now.

iirc the comet had passed already but it was earlyish this morning.

I think there are probably some hints as to upcoming DLC and stuff that might appear in ME3, but I think the point of the Cerberus network is simply to create a richer game universe. Like, I highly doubt that Super Bowl CCXIX and the krogan QB mvp will figure into any future content, lol.

That's badass, ME3 is going to be epic with the Quarians and Geth teaming up. Depending how you played of course.
I wanted to try it but I didn't want to lose any team members from not going right to Omega5 after Legions loyal quest.

You have apparently like 3hours of non-mining/normandy time to kill before they will die, so you should able to do legions loyalty and then go forward.
