I just picked this up yesterday and am on the first space station (the one with the salarian and archangel).

It's my intent to try and play paragon with a side of renegade, since my last game was say 90% paragon 10% renegade.

That said, am I risking boning myself out of a major plot point or something to that effect? I am hoping to have all my members survive at the end of the game.

Ex: I'm afriad of the game pulling another Wrex on me, I didn't see it coming the first time and had to go back to a much earlier save.

I would like to avoid that if possible.

Gaining renegade/paragon points seems rather confusing, I just recruited the salarian yet I somehow got a small amount of renegade afterwards even though I made all the "good" choices.

Most of all the extra plot stuff comes with paragon choices, so you should be ok there. Also isn't there a paragon wrex choice in the first game?

There are a couple of scenes that you can screw up if you don't have enough paragon/renegade, but generally you'll always have enough if you just play through the game normally. The requirements for those scenes increase as you play through, since they don't happen at a set point. If you just save sidequests until after you complete the main game you shouldn't have any issues.

Just curious, does anyone really use the Heavy Weapons? All of the really powerful ones take two days to charge so you get raped out of cover, the Collector Beam is ok but I still only use it once every few missions. Just got the Arc Projector but haven't really tried it out yet.

Not really. Once I was smart enough to always have a squad member with ammo powers on my adept, that was usually enough to take out most anything. Any time I tried using the Cain on insanity, it usually ended up with me being dead waiting for it to fire. Plus being able to fire it is so rare anyways, since it doesn't get that much ammo from power cells.

Now that I'm playing on vanguard, charge + shotguns just wrecks everything.

EDIT: Sometimes the particle rifle comes in handy like you said, but I only used it on things like Praetorians and Scions, and even then only when everything else was dead.

The missile launcher that you start with appears to be one of the better heavy weapons from what I've seen.
    I roll with that.

I use cain on insanity for epic fights, like the sand worm thingy for grunt. Knightfell: Your characters mostly need to be "loyal" to survive the last mission. My suggestions is to first recruit everyone and do side missions, then do loyalty missions as you get a higher paragon score.

Several conflicts will arise, forcing you to take sides unless you have very high paragon or choose a renegade path in the mission:

    Examples are:
    Spoiler: show
Jack and Miranda's loyalty missions will conflict with each other. After completing both, you will be forced to take a side unless you have very high paragon/renegade. If you don't, one loses loyalty and goes back to normal, and you need an extremely high paragon score to talk them out of it (my first playthrough, I wasn't successful with 95% paragon talking them back into loyalty)

Another mission is Tali and Legion - another conflict.

Zaeed's loyalty mission requires high paragon if you choose to save the refinery workers instead of going after vido.

So my suggestion is: recruit everyone, save jack/legion/zaeed loyalty missions for last.

I'm fairly certain the conflicts take more paragon/renegade depending on how many missions you've done beforehand. I stopped and did a bunch of sidequests about halfway through on my first playthrough and was unable to regain Miranda's loyalty near the end, even with full paragon. On my second playthrough I settled the same dispute with less than 50% renegade. Saving them for the end is likely to do more harm than good if you do anything but the main storyline and loyalty missions.

Yeah, I'd suggest doing those loyalty quests first also. Especially since it seems to also scale by level, so if you're just starting out you'll need even less paragon/renegade.

The Cain is so much rape if you get it off though. I went through my first playthrough with it at 95ish ammo and unable to fire (obviously.) I never really used heavy weapons prior to researching it, so I forgot about it over the course of the game.

Come the end boss fight, I run out of ammo on all my (useful) guns. Not willing to leave cover, I remember I have the Cain on me, aim at the reaper, bam. 45% to 0% instantly. I was amused.

I generally use the Singularity Projector, since it can function as an AoE CC in addition to its damage. It's not really awesome on Insanity mode since everything has some sort of protection, but in places where there are lots of mobs in a narrow corridor, 2 shots of it will just about clear most of them out, unless its a Krogan or a higher tier Geth.

I use the Cain on the "Protect the Crates" side mission to destroy all those robots in one shot, other than that it usually takes too long to use it on Insanity, or you don't have the range to use it. I've heard its great on the final boss though.

How is this possible? They are too spread out for more than two in one shot.

They do seem to be close enough together at the beginning if you hurry.

It took me about two tries to find the right spot to aim, but if you are quick it is possible to do.

the rumor is she has lolAI hacking, in addition to Overload I think? So maybe she won't be that bad to use in parties. The flash bang loyalty grenade might be neat if it works on sheilded/armored/barriered targets though.

What do you think the Liara DLC is? Maybe a continuation of her quest to track down the Shadow Broker and his agents?
