Some of the side quests have an impact as well as how much money you collected in the game and how much you mined.

you get minerals to power the normandy and do upgrades and shit depending on how much shit you mined back in 1

Elemental Zero is almost hard to find when scanning a planet.

So I get that Element Zero is 0 on the periodic table, but do they give some pseudo science explanation anywhere? Is it just like an electron + neutron but no proton?

Do Karpyshyn or any of the other guys writing Mass Effect ever give any sort of explanation as to what Element zero is exactly in me too? I mean it sounds vaguely scientific like the dilithium/deuterium engines in Trek, so was curious as to the pseudo science they use to explain it, since I never saw anything in ME1 or Ascension.

How does Wrex die in ME1? I heard it was the default option in ME2 if you don't carry your character over but I wasn't aware he could die.

i've got like 50k element zero and I haven't even mined half the planets. Got like 100-200k of the other elements and out of stuff to upgrade.

Got a harder time finding cash to buy those 75k-90k upgrades from the shops honestly. Dunno why cerberus doesn't just buy them for me, makes no sense!

You have no choice in the matter. They have to give you some incentive to import an ME1 save.
