I had a hard headed group for this when I did it. Our RDM (Bard as well) insisted on going as RDM for this fight. We lost it the first 2 times, and I demanded the last time he come as BRD. Won on a "trial" run. So in short, the answer is BARD.

Our setup was NIN WAR WAR BRD BLM WHM

The big thing I see now when I help groups with CoP fights is they do not bring meds.... for the airship fight I went 1/4-5 i think totaly fucked up on 1st? fight not knowing what to do at all. Both fights i myself spent over 300k on meds(yag drinks ethers and some bigger items.) fact is most people are told "its easy" and go in without a good amount of meds. I did Promy mea 3 times for a friend before we fianly won. I started to think back and saw that some people did not even use food...

so ya things are a lot less gil id go all out and get a good pt set up (bard whm nin war/nin and few others maybe a ranger) and do not forget meds, when time is a factor things like having to rest mp or dealing 10% less dmg can be a game changer. CoP is easy to most of us *old players* because well we seen a lot of it get nerfed and a lot of info out on it now.

i walked up the promys with 20+ people >.> now i can get to the top solo with my npc lol.

    Two things...
    1) It was nerfed, and that makes old schoolers state it's "easy"
    2) Everyone likes to say shit is easier than it actually is, part of the ego of the game.

It still isn't "easy". It still takes skill and a proper setup. If you're using PLD, you need meds. If you're not, then meds still help. BRD helps dramatically. I just did this fight again the other night and was amazed at how much Paralyze completed owned U/O (actually made me wish I brought all level-cap gear). I've never run it with a BLM but think ranged DD and a Ninja and you're on your way.

Tons of meds, SAM/RNG x2 or more you can't lose.

How would you guys feel about a setup that included both NIN and PLD? I'm thinking that the group would round out with SAM, BRD, WHM and a MNK. Never fought this yet... but I'll say this. I would trade the unnerfed version of CoP over the unfortunate fact that 95% of the player base is done with it and never wants to touch it again. Tough fights suck and all, but putting a group together on Phoenix is nearly impossible.

It's like everyone else above said and then this: WHM and tank and the communication between the two is what always made or broke the fight. Done the airship fight a good few times, back in the day with my old static (we went 1/1 pre-nerfs) and then back to help others over and over again. I've always ended up going BRD, only failed runs I've been on when either the tank (always went with NIN tank) or the WHM were utter retards. It's not just the erase spam after Chemical Bomb you need, your tank can also frequently get stoned, paralyzed, silenced etc. Some things you can bring meds for, others you can't. If your WHM sucks balls and doesn't know what every move does you will fail or at least wipe once, the later runs I've been on I've recited all the moves to the WHM, told them to write that shit down on a post-it note next to them if they're not familiar with Omega/Ultima and keep the tank properly -na'd and it makes such a difference.
Also, if you have a NIN tank, have them bring Melody Earrings. You can lolevasion all you want but +12 skill (note: skill, not just +evasion) is a lot and not like there are many other useful earrings around anyway in 60 cap.

My favourite setup's always been BRD NIN WHM 2xDD/NIN and last slot for either BLM, BLU or RDM. BLM or BLU can stun and any of the three jobs can help with backup cures, RDM is indeed handy for para/slow although a WHM with decent gear should be able to stick them as well. Granted the WHM will have other things on their mind during the fight too.

I did it pre-nerf with PLD/WAR, NIN/WAR, WHM/BLM, BRD/WHM, SAM/RNG, BLM/WHM. No auto-refresh, no shield mastery, no sentinel boost, no shield bash boost. People over-complain about how nasty it is for a PLD to tank this. Mind you, WHM and BRD support were very important, but it was pretty cake, especially with the NIN doing DD and just tanking when things got messy. We went 1/2, and only because the first run was just a practice run. Finished in about 38 minutes.

Noone wants to do it now, but consider most people didn't even have mission access way back then. A pool of the unwilling is always better than a pool of the unable.

Recently the funny thing is, the people who already have it done and are helping out have better attendance than the people that need it. ._.
Not as surprising as you make it out to be. If they have already managed to clear CoP, and are actually bothering to help others with it, either they are kind and intelligent people, or they need more bodies for their Seashell.

But yeah, I learned that CoP statics are very flaky myself.

Seriously, this is amazingly true. Hot and cold running stuns has an amazing effect on this fight. (Diabolos and the pot BC near the end as well.) Even if you cannot stun the TP moves, stunning after can help your party to recover, stunning every time your head butt timer is up works fairly well since you will randomly stun things that charge up too quickly to get normally. I did BLU/NIN on the first airship BC for Atum's CoP run and we won it ridiculously easy for two different groups. (Mind you, this is through the lens of doing the bc for Septimus on the week it was released.) But I also farmed up 8 CCP Polymers on my own time. Winning is a matter of giving yourself every advantage that you can- this includes jobs, enfeeble items, and medicines.

only thing changed about this fight, iirc is when you complete a stage (mammets or omega) you get full hp/mp back, and i think all negative status removed. because you don't need to rest for 2-3mins after each stage this fight doesnt need to be as rushed as it was when i did it.

but yea what everyone else said, blu/nin, dd/nins's, rng, brd, nin bring a whm

I did it PLD/WAR, BLM/WHM, RDM/WHM, WHM/BLM, and 2x SAM/WAR. We got Omega down to 50% on our dry run before we wiped and decided to try again for real, and we won that with just a couple of minutes left. It was tough and we did have a controlled wipe to Omega, but we were all pretty n00by, and even though we'd each bought a CCB Polymer Pump, we only used three of them. I'm sure that had we had a BLU, BRD, or NIN, we'd have won more quickly, but this just goes to show that with proper planning and communication, even a suboptimal party can win with few hiccups.

That's how my group won, 1/1.

PLD, NIN, WHM, BRD, MNK, DRK.

After hearing so many bad stories about it, we were surprised at how easy it was. (We've gone 1/1 on all the BCs so far, we're up to the Sea escort stage).

Get good people and CoP isn't so bad at all.

Fortunately, I am 2/2 in this CoP mission.
    My party went in as: PLD/WAR, SAM/WAR, RNG/NIN, RNG/NIN, WHM/BLM, RDM/WHM

    Went painless and quick.
WHM had to E. Seal Slow on Ultima though. ^_^

I managed to win this last night with PLD DRK, BLU, BRD, BLM, and WHM. Stunned the hell out of Omega and Ultima.
