Ok buddy, if you say so.
Give the Dev Team my regards ok?

Oye... Unless I am mistaken, the last change to the way shadows lost are calculated from AoE attacks was made in September of 2004. highlights:
(Source: Wiki: September 14, 2004 Update Notes (FFXI) :: Allakhazam.com)* The effectiveness of the ninjutsu "Utsusemi" now relies on the type of attack that is being used on the caster. When attacked, the following five outcomes can occur:
* Caster evades attack and one "copy image" is lost.
* This normally occurs when the caster is hit with a single physical or magical attack.
* The number of lost copy images varies.
* This normally occurs when the caster is hit with an area attack such as Whirl of Rage. The number of copy images lost (and extra damage taken) is calculated by taking into account the potency of the attack as well as the caster's current ninjutsu skill level.
* All copy images are lost and the caster takes damage.
* This normally occurs when the caster is hit with an area attack spell such as Firega.
* The caster takes damage without losing any of his/her copy images.
* This normally occurs when the caster is hit with breath, or self-destruct type attacks.
* The caster is enfeebled without losing any of his/her copy images.
* This normally occurs when the caster is hit with an enfeebling spell that does not inflict damage, such as Silence.
* All enemy attacks fall into one of the above categories.
* The copy images created by the spells Blink and Aerial Armor can also be removed in the same manner as that explained under "the number of lost copy images varies" (above).
(because POL updates don't go that far back)
Note that the last part was slightly corrected (I think.. I don't recall enfeebles going through shadows, but it has been a while). But I was under the impression Ninjutsu Skill is still the most important factor in shadows taken from AoE attacks.
And all this "number of hits" on AoE TP moves talk is BS. Single-target attacks have a more direct calculation of shadows taken (simply the number of hits - i.e. most TP moves are 1 hit and take 2 shadows, goblin rush always takes 3). AoE moves are calculated based on the above (potency of attack vs ninjutsu skill). You cannot simply directly compare the two (Typhoon is not 4 hits, lawl)
As a former ninja main who has soloed his fair share, and now a rdm/nin who solos plenty, I can say the above is correct to the best of my knowledge.
Also, I seem to remember Faust's Typhoon taking all 3 shadows and inflicting damage before, but I have no proof.
*Edits are for clarity of the point
Becuase if only 3 shadows were taken, I should receive no additional damage with a fresh Utsu?
Anyways, I dont know if I wrote it wrong or if you guys are mis-reading but seeming as you keep mis-quoting I will clarify.
I am not saying it can takes more than 3 shadows, end of story, end of discussion.
I am saying that in my experience and from what I know in this game, it seems to act like it can take more than 3 shadows.
That's it really.
I dont really think I have much more to add as I would be just repeating myself.
And yes, this is on RDM.
am i the only one that's a little confused here? you did say that, using the exact same wording no less. in case you forgot:
and wtf does "acting like it takes more than 3 shadows" mean? i honestly can't think of a single thing that you could possibly have meant by that...
Taking 3 shadows and still hitting you?
That's what I thought he meant.
I give up!
But its ok it doesnt matter![]()
