.mkv File Problem (No picture, wierd noise)

I'm using MPC Home Cinema that is part of the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) to watch a handful of Anime. New releases from a couple of the subbing groups I follow (neither of which have a forum/contact email) won't play correctly. There is no video and I get a high pitched choppy "shriek" that sounds similar to rewinding a tape cassette.

Anyone who uses the file/program often heard of this issue/know if I need to update something? I spent a good hour with google and they only thing I can think of happening is the subbers changing the was they encode the files. I don't see any news/evidence of them doing that, though.

Tried playing it with VLC? Codec packs can tend to be a little flakey.

I have not, no. I was recommended CCCP by a friend who got me back into Gundam. I never heard of VLC, but I'll give it a try.

You can play .mkv with vlc player without any additional codex, I have tried.

VLC yes go go it will play. VLC is a self-contained app with all the codecs in it.

Yeah, VLC works for the files I'm having trouble with. It doesn't seem to have an issue with the frame rate of the with FFXI up either. (Was an HD file, one of my woes. No FFXI + HD.)
