Both map systems work since shit's situational, I remember doing U.S. History in High School and having entire Pacific Ocean as one lump made understanding WW2 a hell of a lot easier from U.S. point of view. But then doing 20th Century politics year later was easier with the European map in the middle as you get all of Asia in one lump.
