I often find that people who try to read bible passages to me are the ones who need to be handcuffed in diapers.

I am confused what all the fuss is about though, this isnt how normal christians act?

Or is calling women whores as they enter planned parenthood, beating up homosexuals, preaching anti-science doctorines to kids, and telling everyone they deserve to be burned alive for all eternity some how better than this?

And in before "but those are just the extremist!, real christians just want everyone to love each other"

    Man kidnaps woman. Ok fine.
    Man strips her. Sure.
Man handcuffs her to a bed. No one cares.
Man makes her wear a diaper. Fine.
Man reads to her from the bible. OH THAT MOTHERFUCKER HOW DARE HE. HE NEEDS TO DIE IN A FUCKING FIRE

Then they'll go even more batshit crazy. They'll trespass in a lumber yard, find some 2x4s and make a cross. Storm through Hallelujah Avenue and eventually when the cops are called they'll nail themselves to the 2x4s and find a parking sign to stab their ribcage against. All the while screaming random quotes from the bible and singing hymns.

One could only hope to be an eye witness to something like that though. That'd be my "Make a wish foundation" wish.

Even you're not that stupid to simplify it down like that. Obviously the bible reading is the hot issue because... well... it's the fucking bible.

    Max, max, max.

The part about the bible is like the end of scooby doo, when they pull off the mask and it was Old Man Withers the whole time. It just explains all the other crazy ass shit.

I fail to see how Christianity explains any of it at all.

Well, we've had this discussion before I think. You still think there's nothing mentally imbalanced about still believing fairy tales in this day in age--I think it's a matter of perspective that we'll never see the same way.

Everytime is a waste of time since everyone can believe whatever they want. Have the last 100 threads that get into a religeon debate solved anything other then rallying the religous troops against the non-religous?

You're right. The free exchange of ideas in an open forum where opinions are challenged and defended is a terrible idea. Nothing productive has ever come from this model, and God (cwutididthar) help us if anyone ever has the crazy idea of basing, say, a system of government on it. We should all retreat to our walled-off ingroups and complain about the opposition in hushed voices, coddled and reassured by like minded people that we, and only we, are correct and our ideas should never change in any way. I mean, hey. It worked for religion.

Mentally imbalanced can still be normal.

Wait wait, I have counter analogies!

This guy has 3 interests: Diapers, handcuffs, and the bible. Alex in A Clockwork Orange has 3 interests: Rape, ultraviolence, and classical music. Alex even fantasizes about violence while listening to classical music. Clearly classical music is the problem: it promotes mental transportation into a fictional world and in modern society, such absolutely entrancing fictional thought has no place. Just look at what happens. [btw, I just learned that the guy who chose the music for the movie had a sex change. Is that evidence of craziness or what?!]

Or video games and school shootings! You know, it's not merely the murder of the students that is fascinating, it's the video games explain why it happened.

Etc etc etc. You're trying to make a specious connection.

    @ Acturus:

Wouldnt agree that we are incapable of understanding the physical world around us.

Religious people play the "its unknowable" card alot to justify their dogmas, I refuse to be a part of it.

Just because we dont know something, doesnt mean we cant.

    @ Max:

Weve already stated many times that people will do good/bad things regardless of religion. What we want to seperate is the motives that can be rationally/clinically removed, from the motives that are "beyond analysis" due to being of a higher power. There is a difference, dont be that naive.

I can talk/educate someone out of being prejudice if their prejudice is based on some basic ignorance. I cannot however talk/educate someone out of their prejudice if they think there is some divine order behind their beliefs.

Our knowledge is limited by our unreliable perceptions and convenient although not always accurate mental models of the world.

Frankly, I think the idea that we can know everything with perfect precision to be vastly wrong and incompatible with the modern world, let alone modern science.

You're probably right, actually. I don't operate under the pretense that my anti-theism is fully justified, or even fully rational. For me, the fact that he was reading bible scripture to his victim just makes the whole thing a lot easier to believe. Want to make something of it?

Hey, as long as you admit that it's not reasonable and that you're operating partially based off of the constructs in your mind used to comprehend reality, I'm cool with it.

I don't think anyone is saying that Christianity caused this but its just fucking typical he did all that shit then pulled out a BIBLE and started reading it to her. I know you see this.
