Serious question because I really dont know and have never used it before.... If 50,000 people are trying to hit it at the exact same time for an update (aka servers just came up) is steam made to carry that type of load?

It was a meh game, easily forgettable. Bigger news is the lulz of SE pretty much abandoning PlayOnline. If FFXI goes on steam...

...it shows brains. If you can get a better distribution network from elsewhere that's well-established, why not?

POL's original purpose is long dead (as SE's failed to get a network of online games up) and modernization is the only path to continuing to run a good game. Hopefully, they'll do just that.

the Screen shots hell of alot better then the xbox360 game (game is good but overly flawed...like ffxi event systems....yeah SE can't make good game can it? :/)

SE puts a game on steam, hasn't put any patch notes up as of late, and they have mini expansions coming out in the near future that are download only...

Also, the Direct2Drive thing might have been a test, I you looked at the sales charts for there FFXI was in the top ten for a few weeks, not to long ago. I wouldn't be surprised if that was a test to see if it would sell on the platform. Anyways I love steam and hear is hoping for the best ^^

Their next title on Steam will likely be Supreme Commander 2 of all things. (and potential future Eidos titles with the way they're trying to buy them up now)

I just feel they're playing it safe using Steam to distribute Last Remnant, rather than risk losing cash by producing it for retail and having to worry about advertising everywhere to all the gamers with PC rigs more powerful than a 360 just to sell the damn copies.

If it weren't for Remnant using Unreal Engine 3, I'd take a gander and say there would have never been a PC port.

Hmmm, probabbly would never happen on steam since they update so often with small managable patches.
