    The shield is its head. It's head is transparent because its eyes are contained inside of it so the transparency allows it to see out. At least that is how I understood the video...

    Yup, all true. The reason the eyes are inside and protected I think is cuz' it eats jellyfish that have a tendency to sting. (from reading scienceblogs)
