I just like DC comics more...

but one of my current favorites is Dark Avengers. Usually I hate Bendis on Avengers, but it just works here. It is also incredibly funny. Bullseye steals the scene the crap he says... (to repeat one in the most inaccurate fashion possible)

"I'm sorry Bullseye, didn't mean to do it"
"Look you and I... both know......... I am going to kill. It is going to happen"

    I'm currently reading:

Thor: Volume 3: Blake calls Thor back to life, and he goes on a parade reviving all his old buddies, and showing Starky the meaning of humility, and guess what? Loki's got a hot new body. Oh yes, oh yes!

Hellblazer: This series is who I am. Had I been able to read it when I was younger, around high school, I certainly would be as happy as I am now. For a world without Pigfucks is not worth living in.

War of Kings: I've always liked Havok as a character, that and the Shi'ar/Kree stories, I can't get enough of them. One of the first comics I read was the Dark Phoenix TPB. Also, Vulcan is a dick.

Dark Reign: I'm still waiting for Sentry to get a clue. As if that will happen.

I really can't recommend X-Factor enough. Peter David is an amazing writer, and his characters are quite fun. I'm not keen on a couple of his decisions character wise (Longshot and Darwin have been questionable additions), but I'm willing to see where he's going with them. He's just that kind of writer.

If you're enjoying X-Force, I hope you've read the New X-Men/Acacemy X series from Kyle and Yost as well. I've never seen anyone be so effectively brutal in Marvel, and not just pull it off but pull off the aftermath. The kids in their previous series were hit time and time and time again, abused and killed and hurt and messed with, and it really showed. Then they got caught in the path of the Messiah Complex crossover.

Forgot to mention, I'm also reading Suspension of Disbelief: The Trial of Starfox. Starfox (aka Eros of Titan) is put on a class action sexual assault trial lead by Jennifer Walters for abusing is powers for non-consensual relations with several happily married women and female superheroes. So far they're still on earth, but I think he's supposed to be judged by the Tribunal later in the series.

Justice League of America is practically the worst comic being written at the moment. Incredibly sad for a flagship title.
This is because the writer, who was also behind JLU the show, is getting dicked hard by DC. One set back after another. Look up Dwayne McDuffie if you are interested

when is thunderbolts going to get good again? i cant believe the current line up in that book, besides ant-man every character is worthless to me.

i currently read : new avengers, dark avengers, whatever 70 books deadpool is appearing in, x force, war of kings and all of its crossover books (just waiting for Nova to do something tbh), and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY which rocks my socks.

god thats a lot of marvel. i prefer DC but i actually read a lot less of it, JLA, titans, teen titans, and occasionally some bat books are like the only monthlies i pick up. going nuts for legion of three worlds and flash rebirth right now though. for some reason i just cant get into any green lantern books

Marvel's space drama has been its best outlet for a long, long time. At least since the Annihilation crossover.

yea thats when i got into it, i always thought shit like the silver surfer was gay but annihilation and annihilation conquest were freakin amazing. i love nova and pretty much every member of guardians of the galaxy, just wish i had gotten into it sooner so i was more familiar with all the characters that have been in the stories.

The Cosmic stories have always been very hit-or-miss. For every Infinity Gauntlet that knocks your socks off, you have an Infinity Crusade to piss in your cheerios. I've always had a soft spot for Adam Warlock and Gamora, and I've rarely seen Thanos done poorly (Marvel: The End was a terrible Thanos story but not Thanos written terribly, if you will) -- though I don't know if we'll see Thanos again for a while, I think they want to leave him dead for the time being. The new Drax has been growing on me since Annihilation started, but I can't quite say I like him yet. Certainly a better character than the old Hulk-in-Space version, though. With the previously-rediculous characters like Rocket Racoon and Groot written fairly seriously, I'd like to see them take a crack at a more reasonable Pip, get the whole Infinity Watch gang back together.... maybe that's who's in the cocoon!

That sounds pretty interesting. I found my old Infinity Gauntlet miniseries (From '91? Maybe '92) and it would be cool to see how those characters have evolved since then. Never read infinity crusade though.

Another Jean Grey type story.. ._.

So, Unwritten #2 was marvelous. I suggest you freeloaders go and buy the issue and support Vertigo.

    EDIT:

Green Lantern Corps #37: Let those who fall live forever in our memories. This issue made me tear up.

    Read ElfQuest over here.
Started in 1978 by Wendy and Richard Pini, EQ is still going strong today, and is beeing made into a movie (keeps fingers crossed) that site is the official one, with everything ever written on the series.

ElfQuest is that good, huh? I have the original comics from my mom's collection still. That's pretty awesome, I guess I'll check them out then.

As far what I'm reading now, it's 100 Bullets. I'm a sucker for anything Vertigo. I read 1-250 of Hellblazer in 3 days, 1 day for Lucifer & Sandman, and a day for Y: The Last Man. So, I'm checking out 100 Bullets, and then I'm gonna read myself some Preacher, which I've heard nothing but good things about.

I would recommend 100 Bullets to anyone interested in a non-lolsuperpewpew comic.

    Comics?

I know there are a few comic experts on BG, so I'm asking where is a good point to start reading? Tried googling but can never find a site like they have for manga scanlations. Been trying for a while now to get into it but all the alternate storylines and/or timelines is pretty freaking confusing. Tried the search button but it pretty much gave me the first page.

So for comics like Spider Man, Iron Man, Avengers, and X-Men, where's a good point to start up on?

If you want to keep up with current storylines and understand what the current status quo is...

Spiderman - One More Day from 2007. This is seriously the worst comic book story of the last 20 years, but it sets you up for where Spidey is at right now. After that you can probably skip over most of the stuff from then to when the Gauntlet started up last year. The Gauntlet/Grim Hunt storyline which *just* ended 2 weeks ago is the best Spiderman story since Maximum Carnage from the 90s. It should be out in hardcover form in a month or two most likely

Avengers - Been pretty much constantly moving since they handed the reins over to Bendis early in the decade. Major storylines are Avengers Disassembled -> New Avengers : Breakout -> New Avengers : The Sentry -> House of M (see X-Men) -> Civil War -> Mighty Avengers (whatever the first arc was called) -> Secret Invasion -> Dark Avengers : Assemble -> Siege. There's others but those are the biggies imo. If you want the absolute best bang for your buck with Avenger's related stories get anything with the words Ed Brubaker and Captain America. His run over the last few years is the most consistently awesome comic writing of the decade.

Iron Man - Get the Invincible Iron Man omnibus released a few months ago (40 bucks), covers 1-19 of Matt Fraction's run on the title, and it was started same time as the movie and is very easy to get into it. The series also just did a bit of a reboot to coincide with the release of Iron Man 2 so you can always jump in on number 25(I think).

X-Men - House of M -> Messiah Complex -> Messiah War -> Necrosha-X -> Second Coming. Not continuity based persay, but Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run is probably your best bet for shear awesomeness out of anything on this list if you want to be entertained, especially since you can collect it in TPB form and not have to deal with how fucking delayed the series was.

Outside of Spiderman, almost every one of these have overgone some Major Status Quo change in the last few months and should be fairly easy to jump into if you do a little back issue hunting. Avengers just went thru a Heroic Age rebranding and rebooting of every title, X-Men is living in a pink and fuzzy post Second-Coming world, Marvel likes to refocus Iron Man with each new movie to draw in new customers (but in a way that doesn't gay it out for people currently reading). Spiderman I dunno, no one knows what's coming after the O.M.I.T. storyline ends, which goes back and elaborates on One More Day.
