Simon West is set to direct The Expendables 2, with filming slated to start this summer. It has taken a while to find a director for the film, but West will take the helm on the sequel to 2010's action hit. He recently directed The Mechanic with Jason Statham and Ben Foster. He is best known for directing Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The General's Daughter.

The original cast of Sylvester Stallone, Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li are expected to reprise their roles. The first film was directed by Stallone, which grossed $275 million worldwide, $103 million domestic. Millennium Films is producing the sequel and Lionsgate will oversee distribution.
