No Sensible World of Soccer? Seriously?
FF12 had a huge impact on me not wanting to play FF13 and that's about it.![]()
Like the game or not, it's insane that it's even in the top 50 let alone the top 10. Not sure what the hell the team that made this list were high on but it must have been some pretty potent stuff. I can't think of anything the game does well other than the turn based but not quite so obviously so battle system and the amount of rare monster/hunts you can do. The license board is an absolutely awful idea, Quickenings were cheap as hell (yeah yeah, you don't have to use them but it would have been nice if they weren't quite so strong so that you didn't one shot half the bosses in the game with it if you did) and it suffers from painfully annoying characters (Vaan and Penelo) like 95% of every other RPG. The few things it does right haven't effected the industry or the genre at all, really makes no sense for it to be on the list even if it did sell well (which is purely because it has Final Fantasy in the title). If some no name developer released the game it would just be considered another meh RPG and have mediocre sales.
As my brother always said, regarding his decision to guard a tank convoy in Iraq, it could not have been as bad as a decision as his decision to go back to Iraq voluntarily. What comes before will always be more influential than the things that come after the initial decision.
So Halo's great big contribution to FPS games was...regenerating health!
PUT THAT SHIT AT #1 FOLKS IT'S NO CONTEST.
I liked FF12, but I agree that is was FAR from influential. And SWOS should be on the list as it was the soccer's version of Tecmo Bowl (Which should ALSO be on the list) as great influential sports games. Even the first version of Madden too.
Heh, I wish the early versions of madden were influential... I loved them.
I hate the shitpile madden games that come out now though.
10/10
I raged
How can you honestly believe that? The Final Fantasy name alone almost guarantees a 40/40 from Famitsu regardless of how good or bad the game is. And it'll sell atleast 1 million in Japan because of the name and the Square Enix logo being on the box. And it's not that I dislike the game, I understand you have a raging hardon for the game but just because someone else doesn't think it's the hottest shit ever doesn't mean they dislike it.
I'm not fond of it, but I don't dislike it. The fact that I've gone back to it multiple times to try and finish it should show that. If I didn't like the game I would never have put so many hours into it. One day I'll finish it without being sidetracked by other games, you'll see!
But you can't alone say the game would have failed if it didn't have the Final Fantasy title. Sure, it might not have sold as much. Realistically, it probably wouldn't have, but it's also a possibility it might sold more. Some people are just anti-success and they live in the indie scene. The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery are descent examples. Sure, not 40/40, but also mild successes in the books.
Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery barely broke 1m sales put together. Last I checked FFXII had sold between 5-6m.
Fuck yeah, Goldeneye is the first FPS I can remember that had so many multiplayer options.
And I remember the controls feeling a lot less stiff than previous console FPS games, but I was never big on shooters.
My friends and I loved license-to-kill + slappers only in the factory stage
Oh it's definitely the first good multiplayer one. Random other FPS's I can remember playing on consoles; Zero Tolerance (Mega Drive/Genesis), Doom (SNES), Wolfenstein (SNES), some Star Wars game on the PS1 (name escapes me at the moment), Disruptor (PS1), Exhumed (PS1) and hell, I think even Duke Nukem 3d came out before or around the same time as GoldenEye. I'm not even gonna pretend that any of them are even close to as good as GoldenEye is, but they were still there and the genre would have continued to evolve on consoles without GoldenEye, albeit at a much slower pace.
Also fuck yeah slappers + one shot kill mode. Only thing more fun than remote mine only games.
Sped up the evolution of console shooters 'vs.' added health regeneration
