Tyche, the first and foremost thing is to get that young child out of harm's way. I'd get Child Protection Services involved, and see if your family can't take temporary legal custody of your nephew. The child is in REAL danger, especially with two psychopaths (sorry to say that about your sister) who are going at it with each other. The last thing you want is that child becoming a casualty as a result of all this.
Hopefully, once she has the child taken away, she'll wake the fuck up, and get her shit together.
I was going to say something similar to this.
I know what you're going through because I went through the same crap with my sister, her baby's dad, and their 5 kids. At one point my grandmother took legal custody of my sister's kids. Once the kids are out of the picture, it's easier to just cut your sister off. I know that's the last thing you'd want to do, but from my own experience, there's no way to help a person in this situation.
Unfortunately, my sister eventually got her kids back so we had to deal with the guy again. He's currently serving a 5 year sentence though and we wont have to worry about him again until 2013.
It might seem a little harsh getting her kids taken away, but the fact is, she's dangerous to her own child. Maybe she doesn't want her kids to be hurt, and she's not the one directly hurting the kid, but nevertheless, she is dangerous to her kid because she allows dangerous people to be around the kid all the time. So for your nephew's sake, get the nephew taken away if possible. Do you have someone else in the family who is willing and able to take custody?
Please worry about your nephew, not your sister. Do whatever is necessary to get the baby out of danger. He still has a future. His mother, not so much.
I can be there in an hour, you just point me in the right direction. *puts shades on* YEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
First thing I'd do if I was her: Restraining Order
Get her to nail him with that, then start making him pay child support.
That would be my recomendation anyways.
A follow up question would be.. is she into drugs or something?
Why the hell does she even want him around anymore?
I've learned a long time ago, that best way of dealing with people who don't listen to advice, is to forget they even exist and let them be. Regardless of your relation to said person. Some people are so far into their own ego that no matter the harm they confront, they'll never change. Treat them like an addict. Once an addict, always an addict. Even if they change their ways, the habitual behavior they've come so used to perpetuate, is deeply imbeded(sp?) in their psyche.
Regardless of how harsh this may sound, you have to take into account that energies you spend trying to help them, will be wasted, when they should be spent helping someone who appreciates your efforts.
As much as it hurts to do nothing ... its sometimes the only recourse. Some people never learn until they hit rock bottom. At this point you should worry about the child's future. Your sister seems to not want to take advice. She's either going to learn on her own or not at all. For those that think its easy to let family go, ha. Its not something you just turn off.
if your sister still wants something to do with him, then let her be. hopefully now she'll wise up and stay away. if he still wants something to do with her then police(or you) will need to do something
It's not possible to get the kid taken away either, for as lazy as my sister is, this is the only legal matter she's ever been involved in. No history of drugs or alcohol, no history of violence, none of that. The judge cannot simply say that "well, since you hang out with bad people, we are taking the baby away..." when these bad people (the baby's dad), hasn't been busted for trafficking (even though it's widely known). Legally, the only mark my sister would have against her is pushing her drunk babies daddy, and they don't take babies away and award custody for minor shit such as that.
Oh, and my sister filed an EPO, so we'll see how things go from here.
^& comments like this are pure bs (1st sentence). People like her, which she seems to have profound psychological problems, can't reason properly... at least enough to make a sound decision to not endanger themselves or their loved ones.
The first thing is the child's safety, then help the mother. Get her a psychologist.
Well then the only thing left to do is make sure this POS knows that the next time he bangs your sisters head against a wall and chokes her. You will break into his home as he sleeps and beat him into a partially conscious state with a crow bar. Then maim and dismember his wife and her children. Laughing as he watches you bathe in the blood of those he cares for.
Or you could apply the situation on reverse and provoke him to swing at you so you can defend yourself.
It won't solve any problems in the end but it might make you feel better.
What others said about saving the child I'll have to go with. Whether it's reasoning with your sister or doing whatever it takes that child is the real victim in the end, and at all costs must be protected.
As far as the comments about just cutting your sister loose... easier said than done. I have a fuckup addict younger brother that I let live with me for a bit to avoid some trouble in another state and after two weeks of politeness he was back to his old shit of stealing money, not paying his part, not working, and going overboard on all accounts. We got into several fistfights which included me having to tie a cord around his neck to drag him out of my house and into the freezing streets of Providence, RI in the middle of winter.
I hated him for years after that but there's always something there that's just like - fuck man that's your brother. We've reconciled and such but maybe it takes extremely drastic measures for certain people to learn their lessons in life.
