that's why I'm in bumbkin land middle oregon,
I'm in gresham and there's NOTHING. I've been out of work for over a year now. Last interview i got, i ended up losing it, i called asked about it, she said she had over 2,000 applications for the job. I just can't compete when there's P.h.D' s out there looking for fast food positions because there's no jobs out there.

I just got out of the health care service, most hospitals have a hiring freeze. It's supposed to end around June, but don't count on it. I have family and friends that consider me family in high places and even their hands are tied.

I got a data entry, part time seasonal job working for an accountant. I make 10.75 and enjoy what i do It might end when the tax season ends, but I think they'll keep me because they like me and I fit in (i know right, me, fitting in, srsly.) I'm in my 2nd year of nursing school, so *crosses fingers* at the end of the year when I pass my boards, I'm probably going to take a break (and buy pretty scrubs) before I start.

As for real advice, I have none. Nobody (save these crazy ladies I work for that hired me) wanted me for a long time, because I didn't have full availability. I was smart enough to do most anything, and I have the people skills but because I had a set schedule for school, it never worked out. Keep (your job and keep) looking, it was hard for me

If you're willing to move to rural Australia we have heaps of hospital jobs available ^^; But nurses are wanted all over too... my sister's a nurse and she has hospitals headhunting her (and she's only out of school 2 years).

The data entry jobs sounds like a decent job. I never know where to start looking for these kinds of jobs, but I guess I should just do like someone mentioned and walk into a building.

After three years you can be making damn near $20 if actually come to work every day.
Wait, are you working for Wal-Mart? I've met many working at Wal-Mart, and the one making the most I've heard so far was making 9 dollars an hour working overnight from 10 to 7.

Yeah, I work here and for the most part if you are making less then 10 that means you work the day shift. Night shifters get an extra $1 an hour and if you work with foods you get an extra .60.

You get a .60 cent raise after your first three months and then another .60 after your first year.

It is really strange that you'd know somebody working for so little at night. I'd think they should complain.

I've only worked here for two years and I am making enough to be greatly satisfied.

They offer great PT/FT starter jobs. I got one through them for Christmas time for temp work to supplement our income.

Also, I know this may sound silly but see if there are any temp agencies around your area. Great thing about them is they allow for a lot of "on the job training" so if you like something you can move forward and then if you like the company you're temping at, sometimes you can get transitioned over.

Craigslist does have some jobs on it, but usually it's better for finding short-term gigs.

Nosey found someone better, but Milk made a nice upgrade himself. Check out the real life pic thread for POIDH.

Ex-gf of mine worked drive-thru at Taco Bell for FOUR YEARS and still made minimum wage ($7.50 at the time?) but was convinced they were going to give her management training any day and she'd be a manager and get a huge raise. She never wanted to quit because she was convinced they needed her there. Kinda silly, woulda walked out of that place loooong before then.

Wow you're right, she's considerably more attractive than Nosey, and 99% likely to be less of a bitch too. Grats on your emancipation Milks.

Thanks. She isn't a bitch at all. Doesn't really mind what I do at all, really. Anyways, that snagajob.com website looks interesting. Saw a job listing for AT&T at a call center. Does anyone know if something like that is a bad idea? Not that it matters, just about anything is better than what I'm already doing. I can handle angry customers.

I knew a guy who worked for AT&T doing tech support in a call centre. He hated it, but not as much as other jobs he'd had. They sounded like an ok employer.

Yeah that is crazy. Food is a quick business and if you are not in management within six months then it is time to move on. My first job was fast foods and I was in management after three weeks.

Depends on the price of living in your area. I saw a few posts on- I make x here and you make y at the same place- really doesn't mean shit. It just depends on your area.
