While true, my Wal-Mart comment still stands that being paid below $10 sucks considering I started working there in an area where min. wage was $7 or possibly lower at the time.

only if your eval is basicly perfect, the rest of use only get .40 raises (seems to be the minimum and normally given amount) I've asked around and I've only found one person at our whole store who's admitted to getting a .60 raise on only one of his evals

most starting people here make under 9, the other catch with walmart is most of the low end positions are very part-time heavy, only way to get full time for sure here is have over 5 years, or start as a stockman or truckcrew(where I started) I'm accually very lucky to be a cashier with fulltime atm. Pretty sure the people who're making the most here are the pharmacy techs and the sporting goods department who are licensed to sell guns/hunting licenses.

@Guitarman : I live in Lebanon, which is like 60miles south of salem, there really isn't many jobs here, but most people are nothing close to good employee material, so if you're heads on straight you'll get ahead of everyone down here. Eugene, Salem, Albany, and Corvalis seem to be doing ok, imho.

I was offered management, but turned it down. Wasn't worth it (somewhere around 9-10 an hour, salary), and I was in school at the time and couldn't work the minimum 50 hour per week.

I've been there too except I had gotten the management, but no raise and benefits. By the time my first son was born I started to realize I was being used so I talked to the manager who more or less told me to fuck off. I called my union rep and we scheduled a meeting with the GM. I sat on one side of the table and the rep sat on the opposite side next to the GM. After explaining the situation, the GM scribbled a "generous offer" on a piece of paper and slid it across the table to me. I looked at it and was thrilled because they were basically going to double my wages plus some extra change, but then he smiled and said that it was what I was going to be making after the raise. After casually offering if I can walk up to him every payday and throw the difference of my paycheck at him, they asked me to leave...
