I was fighting KA this morning solo as mnk/nin and it was going great until I got it about 50% (And no it hadn't raged, had been 10-13 mins tops). All of the suden the waterga IVs were doing 700-800 dmg instead of 100-200 like it was before and pretty much wiped me because of it. Any reason for this?

KA rages in 15 but it's not an on/off switch. It builds up to full rage and then the Benny Hill Music starts. Ain't nothing killing a raged KA.

Any serious responses? Unless it rages before the 20 min mark, it didn't rage. It's melee hits were still very inaccurate and very weak when they did land and inbetween the 2 700+ watergas was a 99 dmg waterga

It is possible you got unlucky, and just didn't resist.

Also notes a few jobs that can solo it, pld/rdm being one of them and I'm just not see'ing how a pld/rdm would get more dmg output than a Mnk see'ing as its acc was so shitty, most of the time I idled in my DD gear, only swapping out merman's for ethreal and Bkote for melee gloves.

Unresisted as the solo target, 700+ sounds about right. If you can't get a barspell, you won't even be at capped resist rate(more like 70%, bit higher if you were to use genbu's kabuto).. you just got lucky before then and never had one land. Ignore these morons, unless you did spend more than the time you previously said. Regarding PLD/RDM, atonement and excal add effect are both nice and they can dispel scissor guard which makes a pretty huge difference.

Would it be worth idling in genbucket then? I didn't time it or anything but i used chakra for the first time 2-4 mins in and only, and again as soon as it was up the 2nd time. Died very within 30 secs of the 2nd chakra and had it at about 37%. SO even going from 3 haste of usu mask to genbucket, I'm pretty confident I could kill in time (assuming its 20 mins like wiki says as opposed to the 15 mins as mentioned in this thread)


Edit And possibly sapphire rings too? I was using Toreador's and Rajas and I'm positive my acc was capped and I don't think -5 str would hurt badly at all.

Get someone to duo with or a dualbox, unless it's uncamped on your server or something it's not worth chancing wasting your claims @.@ That said, I would definitely idle in genbu's kabuto if it doesn't take away your ability to kill before rage(haven't seen a mnk try but I know scissor guard makes a huge difference on nin if not dispelled)

I had someone to duo with yesterday, no drop of course but she was asleep today. And yea, with my shitty processor and leeched internet connection I doubt I'd be able to claim dual box aside from the fact that the only character I have access to to dual box is in a ls that was camping it against me, sot hat probably wouldn't be able to happen anyways.

In the end I think it was a good first attempt and I'm not too upset considering the group that did get it didn't get the drop. I'll
be giving it another shot tomorrow. How useful would a lv 55ish NPC be? I figured she'd just die from 1 waterga so I didn't bother calling her out.

NPC is pretty nice to have for KA, got it to 5% on my NIN with Healer NPC around 58-60 until I dc'ed (no joke...) and no signs of rage. Having your NPC die is actually desirable if you have a fresh Tactics Pearl since they run out of MP kinda fast. Use Tactics Pearl when NPC died for the first time and you should be good.

I believe lvl 55 NPC can take a few Waterga's if they have Shell up, don't remember when NPCs get ShellIII tho.

Also, would it be fast enough to macro in water gear IF timing was perfect? If so I have actually quite a large amount i can add on.

You got incredibly unlucky and got hit with unresisted nukes back to back. KA doesn't rage before 20 minutes.

Your timing won't be perfect for resist gear unless you're paying close attention to how often it casts and macro it in before each one, which will probably take away a decent amount of dot because most of the time you won't be getting watergaIV's.

Better solution would be to take 2 persikos au lait(last 10 mins each and recover 800 hp), and carry a vile elixir +1 for emergencies like the one you described.

You can drag KA into 28 minutes before anything serious happens. I've killed him multiple times as RDM/WAR, and both times were well beyond 20 minutes.

I'm the one that put the comment up about the PLD/RDM actually, and I witnessed it myself while helping some friends camp it. A solo PLD/RDM managed to get claim, and soloed it. Askar head, Ares body, 3/5 Homam, Justice (ran out of stones and switched to Joytoy + Bibiki Seashell partway), Ice Shield for the occasional spikes proc. Don't remember the nonvisible stuff. They used Yag drinks to keep MP up, blinked out when they were using Phalanx so I'm assuming they macroed in a bunch of Enhancing+ gear. Kept Phalanx and Enthunder up fulltime, and spammed Atonement, Killed it in about 15min or so.

Easily, I'd think /dnc is superfluous but you wouldn't rage anyway so if you want to go ahead.. just make sure to get your steps on a knight crab so you can dncvoke for claim.

When I camped KA it was mostly me solo, tri-boxing. WHM for Haste, BRD for songs, and I came as a melee. Messed around /w DRK/SAM, SAM/WAR, and MNK/WAR. MNK is by far the easiest due to counterstance. I always won before the 10 minute mark, /w little healing needed.

As long as you're fast /w finale, making full use of your SP (SV Songs, then JA them) you should win with little to no problem. It could be done duo w/o the WHM for haste, but you'd be cutting it a bit closer to rage.

I had no problems killing it before rage with NIN/WAR + BRD/WHM, and later with THF/NIN + BRD/WHM(dualboxing).. I don't see how SAM has less damage output than NIN or THF even with /DNC and my gear wasn't anything special(no relic weapon or speed/vbelt on either job, x's and the good homam pieces on thf and standard cookie-cutter nin). I'm actually pretty sure I didn't soul voice either, but it was long enough ago that I can't be positive.

When I was fighting it, I would notice that with dodge up I could swap to DD gear w/o any worries about eva gear and I could do a mix of DD and eva when dodge was down. Maybe I should just open with dodge, dd gear + faiths and 2hr. That could save me a pretty large chunk of time, no?
