    Is this dangerous?

Received three separate e-mails all from "Blizzard Account Administration" saying this:

    Greetings,

An investigation of your World of Warcraft account has found strong evidence that the account in question is being sold or traded. As you may not be aware of, this conflicts with Blizzards EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which can be found here:

WoW -> Legal -> End User License Agreement

And Section 8 of the Terms of Use found here:

WoW -> Legal -> Terms of Use

The investigation will be continued by Blizzard administration to determine the action to be taken against your account. If your account is found violating the EULA and Terms of Use, your account can, and will be suspended/closed/or terminated.

In order to keep this from occurring, you should immediately verify that you are the original owner of the account.

To verify your identity please visit the following webpage:
    <potentially dangerous link that I removed>

Only Account Administration will be able to assist with account retrieval issues. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, and your continued interest in World of Warcraft.

    Sincerely,
    Account Administration

This is out of the blue, and I was worried so I copied/pasted the link into my URL and it came up with a 404 page. I'm using Firefox with NoScript/ABP so I don't think anything got through, provided this is bullshit, but I'm running AVG/Malwarebytes just in case. I haven't entered my account info anywhere yet, haven't logged into the game or even started running it. Should I be worried or do you think NoScript/ABP saved me?

    "administration"
    "investigation"

and if you mouse over the link it has some strange looking url like...

    administration.blizzadmin.com
    blizzsecurity.com
    blizzaccount.com etc

    something not
us.blizzard.com or related... its pretty much a scam.

Rule of thumb, if it asks for contact info, or ask you to verify your information, it's fake. Blizz or really any professional company will never ask for you to verify your information that way.

Alright, thanks. Normally I never fall for shit like this but it didn't look too suspect, I'll keep a closer eye on it next time and read it more carefully.

Some say Blizzard.com now, some also say Blizzardadmin or whatever.

Anything, ANYTHING at all that says anything about your account, requesting a reply with info, or requesting you visit the link.... just check the link. Typically its something like www.$#FEWAFAFDSFDSAFSDFdsafweqrtewweafdsafsdaf.432 5tfadsfda/rerfsdf/fsdafsad.com so yeah.

As a rule of thumb I never click through emails about anything sensitive. If I get an email saying my bank statement is ready, click here to view, I delete the message, go to my bank's homepage, and login to view the statement.

Similarly, if you get messages saying your WoW account is in trouble or whatever, first thing you can and should do is go directly to worldofwarcraft.com and login to account management, see if anything is awry. Then post on their forums, hail a GM, or call them, and they can corroborate any information you may have received. At worst, it's 10 minutes of your time wasted; you'll be spending a lot more than that if you happen to click through a bad message and get your account jacked.

Its not really blizzard.com though its probably something like this in your e-mail.

    http://www.blizzard.com/coustomersupport/index.php
Of course it won't be using bbcode... but you get the idea, the same can be done in html code.. if you put your mouse over it, you will see where it actually is going to take you.
(If you don't have flashscript/high setting of java blocking or flash block, even the mouse over can be faked aka "click jacking" I think people refer to it.)

I've seen them try to be slick with them using capital I's for L's and mispelling words in links. Edit: Bleh Links aren't working as I wanted, but I've seen links to worIdofwarcraft and worldorwarcraft also.

Basically, it's safe to assume that any email that says it's from Blizzard is infact not from Blizzard.

There were some going around for a while that actually sent you to webpages that looked like they were blizzards, but slightly different addresses.

I think they had major problems with that near wrath release, it was either for a beta or for the upgrade.
