    AVG and FFXI

I've got two separate issues, both FFXI-related

First, ever since I installed AVG(8.0 Free) I've had issues with severe lag when going from one page of macros to the next within FFXI. When I do this, my whole game locks up for a second then the animation rushes to catch up. It isn't a huge issue on DD jobs but it's almost gotten me killed on Sch. I'm certain it's AVG because I can correct the problem by turning off the "Resident Shield" component, but that feels like defeating the purpose of installing AVG in the first place. I'm looking for a way to eliminate this freeze in-game while leaving Resident Shield on.

Secondly, I want to move my FFXI install from one HDD to another. I thought I'd read that there was a way to do this without having a repatch the entire game, but I haven't been able to find the method. Can this be done? If not, then to save macros/map markers/etc I just need to copy my old user folder to the new install, correct?

Resident shield with AVG is no better than shooting a model aircraft with a shotgun. Its pointless imo, but to each his own.

If your going to use, at least turn off AVG completely while running any games (not just FFXI). Most programs like that run in the background off of unused/idle resources. No matter how small it may be, which will cause that jittering via game, etc.

There might be a setting somewhere in there to turn it off completely while your using a specific program only. But I'm not completely sure.

edit: Just a note, if your game files are somewhat fragmented. And your running a program such as Diskeeper which automatically defragments in the back. It can cause this same effect.

hmmm....that's strange with AVG. I have it running daily and I've never had a problem with AVG lagging me out.

Can also disable certain startup items/services. Avast works well for me with the game

can exempt ffxi directory from active scanning.

edit: and don't discredit active shield for protecting lusers from themselves.
