    Why couldn't you anyways?

I was an F average student throughout school, dropped out and took the GED as soon as I was eligible, scored in the top 1%, then applied to college when I was 16.

Every school I applied to never asked for my high-school transcript, only my GED score, and several private schools offered me full or partial scholarships based on my GED score...because as far as records are concerned, HS didn't happen, and if you got the equivalent of an "A" on the GED, you're a 4.0 student as far as grants, scholarships, etc, are concerned.

I got my (first) undergraduate degree for free because of that. Being a HS drop-out was the smartest thing I ever did.

Interesting, I got like a 97 or some shit on my GED, my handwriting took it down because it's horrifying chicken scratch.

I didn't even consider college for years, just fairly recently actually, never had anyone in my family in college, knew it cost a lot of money, and knew I didn't have that money so I figured it was out of reach.

Ah, well, the primary difference between us is that I knew about that long before I actually did it, so with me it was a planned strategy as opposed to a kind of "Fuck the man!" response to HS.

Sadly you missed out on a lot of scholarships that have age requirements, cause if you had applied to college right after you finished you would of had the same easy ride I did =/(I don't know your age so this may not even be true!)

You're still considered a 4.0 student though for things like presidential scholarships(a lot of private schools give 50% off tuition automatically to anyone with a 3.5 GPA and above).

Sucks you didn't take full advantage of it =/ cause you were(and still are) in a very good situation, the last 2-3 years of HS are for suckers.

I did have it come up once, but just lie and say you were home-schooled, they can't prove otherwise.

Yeah, I've just been pursuing my studies on my own as I did through school.

It wasn't totally a fuck the man response, it was more disappointment and betrayal.

I expected to go to like, a big library with teachers roaming around it, and then they would help me answer questions and learn how to learn on my own... that's what my mom did.

Then I get there and they're like "color these pictures the color it says, and count to 5"... it just got worse and worse til I was offered an exit.
