Strange Behaviour - 4F Bhaflau Gears

Not sure how to explain this, but it's possible I'm missing something obvious. Yesterday we had a reasonable setup for gears (on a 4F Rampart/Boss run) WAR, WAR, BRD, WHM, BLM, RDM (me). Not completely unlocked, but most gear, STR/DEX/INT etc on thejobs that use, and decently equipped, experienced players.

And we had real trouble killing the gears.

The first one that warped, we got to 5% and both a Blizzard 3 (me) and a Blizzaga 3 (BLM got heavy resists and it warped at 1%. Fair enough, unlucky, and move on.

The fifth or so gear we got to about 45% fairly fast and it took basically no more damage. Our nukes (me and the BLM) full resists ala Magic Shield (ie resist message, not 0 damage ice spells only). I have other damage filtered, but mellees didn't seem to budge it either, and it warped at about that health.

The 7th or 8th one did the same thing at about 10%. Full resist message and no more damage.

We wouldn't have got the rampart anyway (linked a gear on our first pull, and another later), but it certainly didn't help on the boss. Entered on Lightsday, fought gears on Darksday, no weather up).

Anyone have any idea of the cause?

I'm not entirely sure but as for that resist message, it might be possible it was warping out as you can't kill it when it is doing that warping animation. I do know that gears tend to be more difficult with weather present but you said there was no weather up so I'm not sure.

    yes
when its warping(animation thing) you will do 0 damage and resist message

this is the same for arrapago's astrologers when it is casting warp. However astrologer's warp animation is much more obvious and have a proper warp message, and therefore you can know its warping and it will take 0 damage + resist

I have other damage filtered, but mellees didn't seem to budge it either, and it warped at about that health.
for 4F gear in bhaf, when time is up, it will just show the animation, w/o any message, and warped. so you will get a "sudden" 0 damage + resist messages when time is up. and you cant stun it to prolong that few seconds. when time is up, that means 0 damage, period

in another words, you are killing too slow. if you have a bard, try to go for 2x minuet and not march if you have trouble not being able to kill all 10 with similar fashion. march feed more tp = possible more restoration. however if you have a MNK or ninja, go for march

Hmmm strange. The one that warped at 10% definitely could have been warping when I hit it, but the one at 45% sat there for at least 20sec (and probably more) taking no damage at all, and with nukes resisting. Was kind of a comical "well what do we do now?" type situation. Just a bug maybe. Thanks for the comments

Was it lightsday by any chance? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills or something because nobody else has ever seemed to notice this... but gears always seem like they're on crack or something on lightsday for us. Our poor little taru samurai was getting killed like every 10 mins in SSR the other day on lightsday. I'm not talking about TP moves, that's obvious since a good deal of them are light-based and would obviously be stronger... I mean that they seem to have massive TP regen, upped resist rates on everything, take less damage, and hit twice as hard. Maybe I'm just delusional from not eating enough popplers.

Was Darksday, but entered on Lightsday.

They didn't seem any more dangerous, and mostly took normal damage, at times they just seemed to stop taking damage completely...

I agree with Arthars, it just sounds like you didn't have enough damage. I really tend to never trust magic damage on gears, it is so inconsistent.

If it happens again definitely report it. If not then those 20 seconds might just have been one of those slow-motion, explosion/"nooooooooo" moments in the movies.

Thanks, this is good advice ^^. I usually go BRD for salvage and I'd never thought of this.

Yeah, I use 2xMinuet on Poroggo to reduce TP moves, but I don't bother on gears.

I'm not sure what MNK or NIN have to do with march vs minuet, though. The effectiveness of Haste depends on how much other Haste you have, that's all; Dual Wield delay reduction is calculated separately from Haste.
