Also, claim that your religion doesn't allow you to condemn your fellow man/woman.
From what I understand, lawyers tend not to pick the 'smart' and educated people. The people who are just a little smarter than a brick will have preferential treatment to actually get picked for the trial.
What Zhais said is quite true, in my limited experience. Those of lesser intelligence and education are more likely to be picked because they are much more likely to trust what has been presented to them. They are similarly easily persuaded in arguments because they don't think for themselves. This is advantageous to both prosecutor and defender; each one banking that the other is less persuasive than himself.
Just do your damn civic duty.
Is Jury Duty a pain, yes, should you do it anyways, yes.
Tell them you hate black people
This.
Act smart.
Lawyers are scared shitless of smart juries about 98% of the time.
If you come off as well-educated, well-read, technically competent (especially with computers and the like), and in touch with both common sense and the world around you, you're far less likely to actually be selected to serve on a jury.
uh when they ask you if you can act impartially say no and you get dismissed. you dont need an excuse. theres no need for some elaborate story
can felons serve jury duty? that'd be a good way to get out of it I think.
Yeah, you should go commit a felony every time you're summoned for jury duty.
(sarcasm. I know what you really meant)
Just don't go. I'm sure nothing bad will happen.
My name got picked out of a hat (not joking, I was like wtf) and there I was, on Grand Jury Duty.
I don't understand why they don't just leave people with jobs alone and let all those faggots on welfare and unemployment handle the jury duty shit.
I went a few years back and didn't get picked to actually serve because my father actually works as an investigator to the district attonery's office. The lawyer asked me if my father "could be" working on the case i told him I don't know.
Luckly I didn't get picked, my father's job probably caused me not to be picked. I would try to get out of it, I spent like 9hrs there that day(would have been more if I got picked.)
If the trial is serious and you end up going you could get sequestered which means it could be days/weeks of court.
I went in for my first jury duty when I was 18(4 years ago), answered all the questions. Some with a bit of a "don't pick me" twist. Like I said I would give more weight to whatever a cop said, etc.
The last question they asked was, "Honestly, do you want to be on this jury?" Said no. Tarp! etc etc.
So I ended up on the jury.
But all in all, it was a pretty interesting experience. The trial sucked... some guy being accused of have a slot machine in his store or something minor. But the deliberation was actually very cool. I was 18, by far the youngest person there. And I ended up being one of the main people involved in debating the trial... was definitely something I didn't regret going through.
Last year I was called in for Jury Duty and the case was related to a kid supposedly vandalizing a liquor store.
So many people tried to come up with so many stupid stories to get out of the selection. It was very obvious and the judge grinded these people in explaining themselves. Many of these people got excused so technically, it worked to come up with stupid sob stories in relation to the case. This creates a biased type of view point to both the judge and the attorney's.
In all honesty, what you say all depends on what the case is related to. Hopefully you have a situation in your life that you can use as an example and make it seem as though you'll have a problem with the specific case. They just need to flag you as biased. Good luck
