I can understand if you don't like cats and I can understand if you don't like animals in general, but most people who don't like animals still do not condone someone torturing them. Look, this guy is a miscreant, but 5 years is really a LONG time for killing an animal...I know "its the law" but the law can be wrong...I just hope to God this isnt a mandatory minimum and the judge would have discretion for the sentence...14 days in prison, fine em, community service at an animal shelter...thats a fair punishment.

Folks love to react to the '5 years' thing. It's a maximum sentence, and this particular perp is unlikely to get it. Two weeks in jail and a fine is a fucking slap on the wrist though, particularly if the animal dies after what was essentially forced imprisonment and torture.

Oh yeah its JUST an animal. Humans are JUST animals too. There have been many many links between violence against animals and the jump to much more violent acts later on in life. If someone has a complete disregard for small animals they usually have no regard for life in general.

Yes I understand that he did not act violently against the cat and he probably was just stoned and thought it was funny, but I know personally my regard for other creatures does not go out the window just because I am stoned. The guy was retarded and if he doesn't want his life ruined and doesn't want to go to jail then he shouldn't have ruined the cats life. This is assuming it dies and he is sentenced to 5 years.

Even if he does get 5 years... so what? Nobody made him do it. He decided to act like a fool all on his own. Why do you care if he gets any amount of time in prison? He didn't know it was wrong/illegal? Please. Actually, if you are going fast enough, you can go to prison, but that's besides the point. That moves into the territory of stopping people before they commit the most serious part of a crime, like causing an accident. In that case, you are potentially risking lives, not already harming them, not the same. If he stuck the kitten in the bong and didn't do anything after, then it would be more like what you are saying and would not hold the same, if any punishment.

Regardless, it's defending idiocy. It had no purpose aside from his own personal entertainment which is probably the most disgusting part. At least if you speed, you might be going somewhere to do something worth a damn.
