    Server Concern.

I was talking with a friend of mine on Ragnarok and they said that the reason
behind the Odin Imigration was because the server is labled Unstable and
are wanting to push people off of it before it would collapse and lose everyones
    data..

They also said that is going to be the case on Ragnarok as well seeing how
Odin and Ragnarok are one of the two oldest servers in the game, is there any
background detail on this that holds it to be true?

I'm pretty sure they maintain/upgrade their servers very well. Odin is just overpopulated.

I haven't heard anything about unstable servers, I think you're ok.

Your friend appears to be trying to sound "cool" or "awesome" with you, bluffing. Take whatever he says next with a pinch of salt next time.

your friend is an absolute idiot, the servers that run these type of high-availability, high-traffic games are constantly updated and failsafed beyond the likes that 99% of this reading audience would even phathom. If you believe the same hardware equipment is running everything from the servers original inception, I have a bridge to sell you.

I was listening to an episode of Pet Food Alpha the other day - They had someone on from JPButton who said the Odin overpopulation was caused by "an underground movement from the JP community to make a JP only server". Was quite interesting.

You friend doesn't know what he's talking about. What's his name on Ragnarok so I can avoid him.

Odin's high population is causing congestion and unstable gameplay experience(not being able to log on at times, getting booted, etc.). It, however, doesn't have anything to do with a risk of data loss.

Currently, congestion is a problem in Odin and Bahamut only. I haven't heard anything about Ragnarok. You can use http://www.ffxiah.com/data.php this website for recent population data.

Although it would sound cool being victim of a JP-underground conspiracy (LULZ) I highly doubt it. We are just way overpopulated~ that being said, we had those connection problems now for nearly - Idk- 6 months? And it seems its a bit better now, search function shows generally less people online then in the past.

I've actually had thoughts of doing this to create an English-dominated server, although the logistics of actually accomplishing it are pretty much impossible. Specifically, you would need to convince people to agree on something and switch servers. It's fun to imagine a world where the Japanese shouts in WG or "Japanese Onry" parties were replaced by English speaking people though... despite any Hitler-esque comparisons that this thought may bring.

It's been reported that prime time has 5000+ people online sometimes on Odin. The server is just overpopulated I think... if the machines were old, couldn't SE just replace them?

On of the main reasons Odin got overpopulated in the first place, as was said here before, is because it's the home of the "Dengeki ryodan" a famous group of journalists who write regular columns about FFXI in magazine "Dengeki PlayStation", and who also publish a large number of guide books and comics based on the game. The magazine itself is pretty famous and they write under their characters' names.

First people who didn't know where to go thought it may be cool to go there, also some people got the (wrong?) impression the server had a larger proportion of Japanese players... and world transfers only made that worse.

Also, the older servers like Ragnarok, Bahamut... have the reputation of having more Japanese players, while newer ones like Hades... etc. are thought to have less. I'm not sure it's quite true, but sure enough many people think that.

The conspiracy theories sound like BS to me...

The ground does shake occasionally on Odin. You might be on to something. (Or it's just overcrowded like everyone else said.)

I only had connection problems one Saturday morning, when I was specifically not allowed to log on because of the number of people logged on.

I have never been disconnected from Whitegate or any other areas even during peak times outside of issues with my own connection.

    lol go go conspiracy theories!

I would think that if the overpopulation ever did produce this sort of doomsday scenario Im pretty sure SE wouldnt just ask for volunteers to leave, but actually just move half the servers population
