i don't really have a problem with these sites, my point was i don't like people on it when they should be working. do it in the morning, during lunch or after work but don't let me catch you screwing around on facebook tagging photos or on twitter complaining about how much your life sucks when shit needs to get done for yesterday. It is extremely irritating to have my boss complain to me that something isn't done when it's the fault of one of my interns spending half their day chatting away to their friends. It's one of the reasons we were able to lay off a large portion of our staff and not take much of a production hit.
i realize i'm a couple pages late responding, oh well
i think everyone who hates it just doesn't have anything interesting to say!
i also think everyone needs to chill out with the hate. society is becoming more and more digitized seemingly by the week. print journalism is dying out and everything is moving towards online publishing, publications and user-generated content. like it or not, twitter is a useful communication tool for some people (even if it isn't for you) and provides some sort of an outlet for someone who otherwise might not have one. if you're going to hate on Twitter, then hate on sites like Brightkite, Yammer, Triond, Livejournal, Blogspot, etc. i bet half of you retards complaining about twitter are blogging nonsensically in your LJ or blogspot. twitter's just a miniature version of those websites.

I don't see what's odd in this thread. People who frequent the net have a tendency to be overly critical about everything, profess their hate for most of society, as if they were some sort of exception to their "everyone's retarded" quips. Seems like another day on the internet.
Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and anything similar are websites I do -not- hang out on.
Facebook was an excellent way for college friends/collegues to keep in touch, until they allowed it to be for people in the workplace, until they allowed everyone to use it.
I joined facebook for a week a while back, and out of nowhere all these people from my high school who I intentionally stayed away from started adding me and saying "Let's be friends" even though they made my life hell in high school. Yeah no. I then realized I didn't need to see the status of everyone every day and now every minute.
Twitter though is nice on events, if you want play by play by someone there. Using twitter to say "Omg my son just vomited all over the couch, ugh" "Cleaning my son's vomit" "Ok vomit cleaned up!" = WHO CARES. There's a TV show for people like this, it's called "Big Brother". People who are constantly on these are losing out on the mystique of life, there's no more "catching up" to do irl as you're exposing yourself on the internet, and when you do catch up with someone, almost everyone I know who's on facebook says "You should just go sign up on facebook and friend me so I don't have to tell you everything, it's all right there!". NO.
Before taking my comments wrong, these sites had/have potential to be good, but everyone's taken the wrong approach to them and informing us of things that are just daily events. People having the illusion that they have 400 friends, etc etc.

I’m so glad that I’m able to share my important thoughts from anywhere anytime to everyone because everyone needs to know that I am taking a

But seriously, I just learned what Twitter is from this thread. I can agree with most here that it seems pretty useless. Also, like Wafik said, I can see this killing the "catching up" part of most conversations. Sad thing is, I can see my younger cousins using this. They're all in to the whole "post every goddamn thing I'm doing on Myspace and make useless videos of ourselves on Youtube acting silly, also taking multiple mirror pics of ourselves making the exact same kissy face lolz" fad. So I can bet money they all have Twitter accounts. :/
"Social Networking" has simply become sporadic little communities of the socially effortless, jerking eachother off through constant and obnoxious status updates and replies/comments because it gets people off when they imagine having an audience for their shitty lives, regardless of how mundain it really is.
Reminds me of the people I used to work with, who used to spend all day on Facebook. I get that you may want to keep up with people, hell I use it at random to send people who are never on MSN an IM every now and then, but what the fuck is there to do on Facebook for over 6 hours a day?
When it got the banhammer by IT their brains shut down.
I have both a myspace and facebook and i check them maybe once a week. I don't really see any use for them other then wasting time. Just like most of the internet is used for. Although i guess i could see using Facebook as a networking tool. Myspace is too young for that. But whenever i hear about twitter i think of 14 year old girls who are trying really hard to be popular in school. Silly things still think people care what they have to say. Wait is anyone listening...? Hello? Hello?!?
I know friends of mine have been using twitter as an axillary search engine to Google. Google being a great information relevant search engine is really handy combined with time relevant search engine the likes of twitter. Twitter Search
Don't worry, I know that in a year's time when you finally work out how to use it you'll be eating your proverbial hats ^^
Just in case the message was getting lost, Twitter still sucks.
And nobody cares about you or what you're doing at any given time. Ever.
Just want to make sure that message was coming across clear.
