its usually not spam by virtue of the fact that you're on topic most of the time... but it is when u bombard us with trivial details and/or lengthy commentary about something that nobody really cares about.. and the fact that you even link to a wiki about it...

either you have too much time on your hands or naturally have too much to say about something of ill import.. and that, at the very least to me is quite annoying..

Ah, OK. I can see where your criticism is coming from, and you make a legitimate point. My consideration of what is trivial and what is not (that is, what is on topic, this is the frame problem) are where I don't know how to properly respond to you.

Ken Jennings (of Jeopardy! fame) argues that trivia is vital to communication, because people who know nothing about each other still have a lot of little things in common, and it produces a shared ground of experience.

(If "frame problem" doesn't mean anything to you, would my explanation of it be spam? Either that thing about Ken Jennings was useful, or it was spam. Which is it?)

If I turn off the part of my brain that creates deep commentary, however, I don't have anything to say. Is a detailed consideration of topics (such as the "why botting?" discussion) a bad thing? (and I consider the links to be a modicum of intellectual honesty, especially when I make cultural asides)

Mods, if this topic is too meta ("What constitutes a proper response to a given topic on BG?") I can take it to PMs.

my only issue would probably be that you're trying to engage in discourse that is of a level thats too high and definitely not required in a gaming forum.. not that its bad.. just that its kinda out of place..

you'll notice at some point many people are just glossing over your posts. maybe they read it but most probably wont and end up ignoring you..

at the very least tone down on the trivia is what im getting at..

1.) If you don't like someone's posting style then ignore their posts. (This is even a real forum function, like you could totally ignore them, omg far out call your sister and tell her.)
2.) If you're going to call someone out for spamming don't do so in the process, especially if the person isn't even spamming. Exception to this exclusive protip is if your name is Day.

either way.. this thread wasnt going anywhere.. i mean srsly now.. its got nothing to do with anything in-game.

PS to day> i was only offering what i'd consider advice. if I feel something about it I'd think some others might but they could just not be doing anything about it. one things for certain tho, no one is commending it... so really, this is constructive criticism.. and from his response, he's quite happy to take the feedback.

I'm not going to dumb myself down, if that's what you mean. I think to expect... colloquial... speech on a gaming forum is far more condescending to the people there than speaking in a manner that assumes refinement even though it might go over some heads. The people who can understand what I'm saying while we're debating why Square takes certain actions may disagree with me but I'm not going to expect that no-one can understand just because I use accurate technical terms. In fact I think the majority of forumites will understand me just fine.
