It's the reason my NIN can take 100 damage and finish casting but my MNK/NIN can't take 30.

Wouldn't fuma's outparse dune boots with BB? I've been told by someone who I can't remember that said brown+dune or black+fuma since it would put you at 25%. My mnk is 64 and I'd like to know this as well because I really don't want to camp dune D:.

But that's just personal preference, can't say I was a Brown Belt MNK for a long time really... Dense was the one who told me to use that and to parse it myself, so I did and I found it to be the way to go.

That is because almost all Chariot TP moves are magical damage in nature. Counterstance only effects physical defense.

It is also how SAM/WAR tanking with Third Eye is viable (magic AOE doesn't wipe Third Eye).

Brown belt vs. black belt really isn't the deciding factor here, it's the buffs you're getting. March (1? 2?), haste (fucking RDMs) and haste samba (why is there a DNC in the party). Well, nohaidate + brown belt guy is more likely to wear dune than haidate + black belt guy, of course.

Fanatic drink just flat out block all WS regardless of their nature.

Fool's drink only block casted spells and/or spike/enspell type of magical damage.

i only use dune boots when I have footwork active ... fuma>dune imo

I personally prefer usu shoes, but I guess that's just me!
