    The Mentalist

just watched the pilot online the other day, have to say I was impressed; I'm hoping the series picks up, I'm a sucker for a clever unconventional lead character

plus the serial killer ongoing plot is interesting, I'm reminded of Dexter (the main character, notsomuch the serial killer aspect) and when I did a search to see if there was already a thread, I saw that ashira was a fan, jw if anyone else is loving this too

please avoid spoilers for now, I gotta catch up!

I really enjoy watching this with my better half, but so far they haven't followed a "Red john" case, or whatever since the pilot, which is disappointing for me. The episodes are still good, just solving the murder of the week. I'm hoping the season finale brings Red John back into the plot.

oh, hmm that really seems a potential strong point, they should milk that

ah well, I got my weekly heroes episodes and reading sensei negima or whatever at work

I haven't owned a TV in a couple years and loving it although I do find it hard at times to find my new fix, I generally find a good show with 2+ seasons and watch it all at once

I only saw this series for the first time a few weeks ago and now it's one of my favourite. I find it is really consistent in being good, mostly due to the main character and that hot agent girl who is the new one to the group.

I remember reading up on this after it was mentioned on Psych. I have to admit, the concept made me laugh a lot considering where I heard it, but I was still slightly interested in watching it.

I might give it a chance.

They did follow a Red John case, he even talked to good ole Red over the phone. I would have to look up the exact episode #, but it wasn't too far back.

Wow, I knew we missed an episode due to DVR cutting off half of it, but if that's true I really need to find which episode it was, since they haven't mentioned him since the pilot, although they do reference the murder of his family often enough.

They have a few B+ episodes, but someone in the writing staff has a wonderful sense of humor and they let the main characters say what real people with those personalities in those situations would actually say. I'll think of a snarky comment and then Patrick Jane says something better.

This won me over on the show in about 10 minutes. Great to hear other people watch it, too!

I don't know which commercials play where you view it, but have you noticed that Agent Cho plays the token asian in a ton of them? He's in AT&T ads and a few others I've seen recently. He's my second favorite character personality-wise on the show, too.

The chick in charge is Robin Tunney. She was in Prison Break playing Veronica Donovan. Also in the Craft, Empire Records, End of Days, Vertical Limit, Supernova, the pilot for House. So she's been in quite a few things you may have seen before.

Had to search for this thread... Why did it fall through the cracks? I enjoy the show and after last season's finale was totally blown away. Not sure how I feel about the bomb dropped at the end of the premiere tonight.

    Spoiler: show
Red John still being alive. The major problem I have with that is that one of two things happened. Jane knew from the beginning that it wasn't Red John and he killed, despite him making it clear that Red John was going to be the only human he ever killed. Or Jane found out after the fact which means he made a MAJOR mistake and is fallible and kinda takes away some of the magic from the character. They better do some serious explaining in the coming episodes or I will be disappointed in the show. Has been one of my favorite shows for a long time now.

Other than what's in the spoiler I enjoyed the premiere.

    Spoiler: show
Only issue I have is with the court scene, how he got off on all counts makes no sense whatsoever

My issue was more technical, the damn camera kept unfocusing and focusing during most of the episode. Annoyed me no end. Plus Jane
    Spoiler: show
can't kill Red John now, unless he makes it look like an accident, or he can if he's willing to really do time

I don't think doing time will ever be an issue for him.

Really tired of the Red John story, almost as much as the hippy grandma that was apparently a romantic interest of Jane during s2 or s3. The show is at it's best during the weeklies. We know Red John won't be found as long as the show is hoping for renewal, but polluting more than a couple episodes per season with it is getting as old as the Beckett's mom storyline on Castle. I don't even want to watch episodes with those storylines.

So anyone else catch the last episode? The ending was pretty tight. I was expecting Jane to do his usual thing and get the guilty person to fuck up, but I wasn't expecting them to fuck up that badly >.>

I figured it was Panzer about 15 mins in but as there was so much time left I wasn't sure what the rest of the episode was going to be about. I thought it was genius the way Jane goaded Panzer into bragging about himself and dissing Red John. The way he was looking at the red light on the camera, it was subtle, but I like it when they don't shove the plot in your face, making you have to work out what's going on. He took care of two birds with one stone - having Panzer get his comeuppance and drawing out Red John (who of course will be labeled a copycat killer). I'm interested in how this is going to play out.
