Someone please explain to me how a person who is in favor of the death penalty is more dangerous then the person who unfavorably decapitates you in your sleep?
I guess it depends on the circumstances of the death penalty.

There's more to the justice system than just rehabilitation. Rehabilitation, Punishment, Prevention, Deterrence.
Should he be Punished? Depends on how insane he is.
Should he be Rehabilitated? Sure, to whatever extent he can be.
Should he be put in jail for prevention? This is where I would say yes. If he's so messed up that he cuts someone's head off on a bus, even if it's a medical condition, the safest way to prevent such a tragedy again is to keep him out of the public. Jail, debatable, but certainly some sort of institution.
Should he be made an example of? I don't think that's the issue here. Unless it does turn out he's using the excuse as a way out of jail, then he should be locked the fuck up, and shat on, any example made of him would be a good one.
I felt a chill. That's a judgment call. Personally, no, I don't. I think we should just execute him, because it's really expensive and far from high success rate curing this kind of illness. The public will be paying his (expensive) bill for a long time. I don't think it's a good investment--he will never be as productive as a member of society for us to see a return on the money we invest.
ill explain what i mean better.
you are of sound mind and are willing to kill another person who is not of sound mind because youre afraid.
he may have killed another human but it was due to an illness, which can be medicated, not his free will.
Your reason for his murder is fear and retribution. his reason was an illness which placed him in a position where no choices were present but the one that happened.
its not an issue of the death penalty to me with this case, its an issue where retribution is being substituted for justice.
You can find a psychiatrist to say anything.
Spoiler: show
Dammit, I can't wait, so I'm just going to do it...

Dr. Yaren was satisfied that Mr. Joubert could
look after himself and he was not at risk for self-harm so he was discharged from
PX3 and returned to BCC on September 24th, 2004.So, it's pretty much a verbatim 180 from the "A Time To Kill" scenario. This doctor released a patient whom he found mentally stable and no risk of self harm, then later admitted that patient into his facility, under his care, and his patient committed suicide. On January 31st, 2005 Paul Laurent Joubert died while resident at the
PsycHealth Centre (PX3), Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At
approximately 10:05 a.m. Paul Joubert was located hanging by a bed sheet tied to
pipes in the ceiling of his room. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
Kill him and let's move on.
Edit: Some of you people are just fucking absurd.
BRB while I murder a whole family, tell the jury I'm sick, go to rehab, become 'better', and get back to where I once was.
Disgusting.
I just don't see how anyone's first reaction would be "oh he's not insane, he knew what he was doing"
All this means is that if you're going to kill someone, you'd better make it as horrendous and gory as possible, maybe flay someone's skin off or eat part of them, so you can get off on an insanity plea. Then after subsequent mental rehabilitation, just act normal and sane and you'll be let go.
He should be thankful that he is not back home China, he would have been euthanized regardless of his mental state.
One of the precepts of liberalism, is that all men are entities of reason, and that because they are men of reason, they are thus men of law. If for whatever reason they don't have their reason, then they can't be judged at all.
For anyone to go against this principle is like going against the very foundation of modern occident society, but then again, most of you guys are pretty badass hardcore rebels what with rebelling against the society that shuns you etc, etc, etc.
he shouldnt be put in jail...
he should just be executed
it's obviously not so clear cut in every case, but this guy got on a bus and cut up some 20(?) year old kid he didnt know cause a voice in his head told him too, kill him, save money & move on.
imagine this happened to someone you know for no reason
You guys are doing a good job of perpetuating the ideal of the American cowboy; the one who doesn't care about logic and reason and is only looking for some old school justice. Keep it up.
Sorry for the late response here. aurik without going into too many details here I have more experience with this than probably anyone here. My best friend throughout elementary school and high school was diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic(right before he became a freshman) which ultimately led to him being brought up on assault charges for attacking a random guy and ultimately killing himself, after he was off his medication for about a year. So while I appreciate the witty comment about doctors, I'll lean on my own personal experience on this.
Someone committing a grisly murder for reasons of passion/revenge/etc. are much safer to have in a society than those who plea insanity, essentially announcing their instability, unpredictability, and utter danger they are to everyone around them. The entire purpose of these systems is to protect people, as a whole, from eachother and sometimes ourselves. The bullshit insanity plea is oft a loophole that negates the entire process. Kill the fucker.
