    Chainspell Stun Ultima Zerg

No message board search has ever worked right, I swear... So if this has come up before, sorry, I searched and found nothing.

Anyway, you'd think this would be a common method, but I haven't been able to find anything on it.. So it's kinda worrying me, since Ultima's not exactly a good fight to experiment with. But we want to kill faster so we have more time for chest farming afterward. We have angon, feint, tomohawk, BRDs, about 4 DRKs (2 with m kris, 1 with k club), SAMs, etc. for zerging with. So basically, I'm wondering if this would work, and if not from 100%, when would be a good time for it? I'm thinking the last 25% if nothing else.

    Thoughts?

Your best bet is to zerg it just before it starts Citdael Buster phase.
Keep it just above 20%, do SV stuff and prepare there, then force it to 19% and Stun Dissipation witth your zerger far away if Stun misses (need DRK only lol) then go in a smack it down to 0% and hope for no Physical Shield.

Uh, I was under the impression that all chests despawn once you engage Ultima? the initial 3 chests should take you no longer than 10 minutes to open anyway. ~50 minutes should be plenty of time to easily take down Ultima in a controlled environment.

    Except 2 problems:

It will have either physical or magic shield up. If physical is up you wont be zerging, if magical is up... then you wont be stunning.

We generally use SV right after 20% so people dont lose buffs if dispelga goes off.. That way we can see what phase it is in, and not waste SV songs if it starts off with physical shield.

There's more than time to open the chests before Ultima and still kill it, you can only open 3 of them.

And if I'm not mistaken, I thought that chests despawn when you pull Ultima?

I would be _really_ shocked if they could get through all four Dissipations so that the Physical or Magic shields would even be a problem (assuming you start the zerg at 100%).

Very small window of opportunity, and if you fail the Zerg would be over. Depending on the lag, even a Chain Spelling RDM very well might miss one of them.

In my experience, if done right, the C/S stun is worthless. Its simply timing the zerg for when his physical sheild is down and after you have stunned his Dissipation. If you fail to stun Dissaption, its over. If he puts up physical shield as u run in, you've wasted your SV. The best zerg runs I've been in were those when we were right up on him, SVd, stunned Dissapation and went to work in less then a second, instead of trying to run in. He goes down like a sack of rocks if done right.

What about zerging into the last phase, then if Ultima uses magic shield, keep zerging and take a dissipation and cure bomb, then if it uses physical shield, keep stunning and have the BLMs and SCHs manafont and finish it off?

Are you implying they are literally CS stunning (wailing on the macro or menu), or watching for the move during the duration of chainspell? I'd assume seeing it in the log would be difficult with all the spam unless filters were on. How many times do you see things get through on other chainspell zergs? I've never heard of a Dynamis Lord or Bahamut v2 going bad bacause a single move went offf... /eyeroll

Either way, I'm pointing out all the difficult things that would arise from trying to pointlessly zerg Proto-Ultima, not the fact that Dissipation is extremely hard to normally stun. Two paladins can handle that, you don't even need spells.

Get a tank who can survive Citadel Buster and kill it the normal way instead, it's not a hard fight. The chests aren't even worth farming since they never drop chips.

The problem with Dissipation is it wipes all your worthwhile buffs, AND stuns everyone in range. That, combined with the shields just leaves too much to chance for my liking.

Bonus question: Has enyone EVER gotten a Temenos chip out of a chest in the Proto-Ultima Zone? My group just can't understand how Omega only takes 4 runs to try, and can drop chips, while Ultima takes 6 runs, and apparently does not drop chips in any fashion. One joke we always had was you had to go 3/3 on correct chests to get a chip, since we have never done it. I think our personal best was once where we got 2/3 correct. We are unlucky as shit in that respect.

Dumb question but wouldn't this be more appropriate in standard discussion instead of advanced?
