Tron was far from the birth of CGI in movies, only 15 minutes of it was actually done with computers. The rest of the movie was done using rulers and protractors (well much more advanced tools than that but you get the idea.) It was ridiculously expensive and will never be done that way again. I'm happy to hear that Daft Punk is scoring it. They're not the most underground group ever they'll probably hit the mark better than most other choices would.

Either way, with such a fiery opinion on music (thebearofscience), I'm actually somewhat interested to hear what kind of electronic music you'd recommend to other electronic music fans (not trying to criticize here just honestly curious.)

No. HBFS, Digital Love, Crescendolls and Robot Rock are the full bar sample loops(all credited). 4 songs out of 3 albums. Many of their other songs are heavy on (mostly uncredited) sampling, but the main elements are composed by Daft Punk and the resulting sound is very different to the sampled source material.

I don't want to derail this thread with a pissing contest but I just lol'd a kaka out of my butt at that.

If you want to talk about your MTV term "electronica" or what I call dance music and have been DJing and promoting events for over 10 years, been listening to for 15, and producing for 2 you can IM me at djconfucion on AIM.

I'll give you pics of my setup and send you tunes I'm working on.

Again, you don't know shit about art and you're hating on one of the most influential electronic acts of our time. They've influenced three genre's of music with only four albums. They put on one hell of a creative live show. They use a particular sample with clever arrangement as well as an intense knowledge of music production on an engineering level as well as a musical level.

You can take this fake underground hater act somewhere else because no one here is buying it. Yeah I remember in the 90's when it was cool to say Deee-Lite sold out because of 'Groove is in the Heart' after they had been dominating the NY house scene. That shits played kid, every artist I work with or encounter have nothing but the deepest respect for Daft Punk regardless of genre.

There's no point in music elitism here, if it rings a good tune in your ears, and you like it, then listen to it, fuck everything else....(except tron, tron owns!)

I found that incredibly annoying, and I listened to it unbiasedly.

daft punk is a group that runs on samples, which is completely fine, but there's a difference between taking a whole bar from one song and looping it than taking half a note from hundreds of songs and putting it together.

I bet you dislike Girl Talk, Philip Glass, and a lot of Brian Eno's early work too.. fuckin' loser.

Sampling & creating new music from the samples is ART.

    haven't listened to girl talk.
i actually listen to eno. favorite is "here come the warm jets", though.

Sampling & creating new music from the samples is ART.
am i getting whooshed or something? or am i whoosing myself? what? i never said sampling was bad. i even said that it's fine, even i sample. what i'm saying is that i don't think it takes as much skill when you're sampling huge bars and notes and just looping it.
    guess i don't know art.
