This is a specific question for Left4Dead but more generally all Steam games. My friend at work bought the game for pc and registered it to his SteamID but after playing it decided he doesn't like it and gave it to me. Is there a way to transfer the CD-key from his account to mine? Can he gift the install from his SteamID to mine so I can install it at home or is it stuck forever with his ID?

He's stuck with it. All you could do was use his account to play it.

Similar thing happened to me with my friend. I was logged onto steam on his computer and he added a game to my steam account thinking it was his and I then had two counter strikes on my account. I emailed valve and it was fixed right away. This was about 3 or 4 years ago though, policies might have changed. But it never hurts to send them an email.

That is a good idea. Thanks. I think we will have to email them and just ask if it is possible.

Steam used to charge a 10$ fee last year to move a registered CD-Key that wasn't VAC banned to another account. To my knowledge they stopped this since its no longer in the KB articles.

Anyways, try emailing them. Small shot in hell though.

Yeah it just sucks because for some strange unknown reason my friend really did not like the game which I cannot imagine. Anyway It would be sad if his install went to waste and was not played. He does not want to share his steamid/login with me though.

Oh well.

Yeah, you can't transfer used keys.

He probably didn't like it because L4D sucks
