I have a 5.1 set up with a creative x-fi sound card that is having some strange issues regarding the 5.1 output. It started with a clean install of windows xp pro, I installed the creative drivers and suddenly my speakers were reversed. My rear speakers now acted like my front speakers and my front speakers acted like rear speakers. This was happening in games, firefox, and video/audio files. I uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers many times but still had this problem. My ghetto fix was to just plug the rear speakers into the front port of the sound card and front speakers plug into the rear. I'm not really happy with these sort of fixes but whatever, it worked.
Now, I formated again and put the newest build of windows 7 on my computer (7048). Installed creative's win7 beta drivers and my audio worked again in 5.1... or so I thought. Watching videos in youtube (firefox) works fine, the front speakers are the loudest. But then if something else is going on, say an IM from pidgin, the rear speakers are freakin' loud meaning that they are reversed again! So it's like some programs are reversing my 5.1 and some aren't. I've never had this happen to me before, any suggestions?
EDIT: After switching PCI slots, and confirming that the speaker wires are in the correct palces to begin with. I seem to have fixed my problem along the way. Ignore/delete this thread :D
