    Razor Suggestions

What shaving razors do the guys here use? I used to use the Gillette Mach 3 but was disapointed with how quickly it dulled and just didn't seem to give me a close shave. I recently switched to the Shick Quadro razor, and while it gives a closer shave, the thing is a nightmare to clean due to these vertical wires running across the blades, and after 1-2 shaves, it goes to hell.

Though I haven't used an electric for about 10 years due to the lack of closeness on the shaves, if there are any good electrics i'd also be open to that as well.

Gillette sensor excel is more than enough for me. Then again I don't have a lot of facial hair. If I let my mustache grow it looks like a crappy teen stache. The beard... nothing more than sporadic patches.

Magic shave gets the job done without even using a blade: Magic Shave - Shaving Powder Gold 4.5oz

For the love of god, get the unscented brand unless you want your bathroom to smell like a burnt perm and rotten eggs.

Gilette fusion power gives me the closest shave possible, I got it recently to replace my mach 3 and it's very very smooth.

I used to used a Mach3 and now use a fusion. Having sensitive skin (I don't break out from shaving though, just burn easy/irritate) I am hating my fusion. I'm on my last razor in the pack and probably going back to the mach3 afterwards. I am interested in the straight blade and such but I wouldn't know any stores to buy that, only online.

Share the sentiments on the Fusion power; Its a nifty gimmick, always wondered how it'd work (and was a bit nervous to put a vibrating blade on my neck) and, while it does its job, I dont see it performing any better than anything else. I've always liked the Mach 3, maybe its the gel stuff they put on the blade heads that doesnt match up to the other stuff, but it feels a lot smoother afterwards.

I tend to get razor bumpies in the bottom of my jawline quite a bit, I had all but gotten rid of them with my Mach 3, but Fusion is doing same thing again. Then again, was on sale for less than a pack of Mach 3 blades (3pack) and it came with two, so I figured I may as well try it.

I use a Mach 3. I like how the back is open, so it makes it super easy to clean. Most other brands have an either fully closed or partially closed back, making it next to impossible to clean. I dislike those types and avoid them.

Mach 3 or Fusion and that's all. No other choices. If you are a man you will own one of these two. If you do not, and you are a man, I'm not saying you're gay. But I definitely think you aren't straight!

    I used a Mach 3 for a long time.

Then my local BJ's was out of refills.

Sitting next to the empty box was a Fusion + 16 blade pack, so I said "why not?" and bought it.

Blade life is fairly short, but I am impressed with how quickly (and razor burn-lessly) you can get a very close shave. Cleaning isn't bad, but not quite as easy as the Mach 3 since the blades are stacked closer together.

I don't know if I'll buy Fusion or Mach 3 refills the next time I'm out of blades, depends on what's available and cost difference, I guess. I don't dislike the Fusion, and it's definitely a better shave than the Mach 3, but it's not like a 50% better shave so I won't pay half again as much for razor blades.

Adjustable double-edged razor and Merkur blades. I'll never go back to cartridge razors again. Although I do have a foil electric for those mornings I'm in a rush.

Another Mach3 user here, even though it doesn't fully clean my face off, leaving a very subtle grey area where I shaved. Does the job well enough for me anyways.

Starting to think I have sensitive skin though as my jawline area is always irritated after a shave.

I use a straight razor but if I forget to pack it/bring it I'll pick up a Fusion. Those aren't too bad. Barbasol is the cream I use as well. The right shaving cream is the key really.

The holy trinity of shaving is razor, lubricant, and technique. Break one of these and you're going to look like you shaved with a cheese grater.

    1. Don't use dull razors. The more you force a blade across your face the more irritation you get. Period. Just because you paid 20 bucks for some M3 cartridges doesn't mean you have to squeeze 6+ shaves out of one razor.

    2. Don't use crappy lubicant. You don't need to spend 35 bucks on a tub of high end Castle Forbes Lime Shaving Cream, but don't count on that canned foam you picked up at the dollar store to keep the razor moving smoothly on your face. Also don't shave bare skin for obvious reasons.

    3. Learn how to shave. For most people a pass going WTG and then XTG will make your face pretty damn smooth. Going ATG is for wookies only. And contrary as to what you see in commercials, you can't do half your face in one stroke. Start with one side of your face and work steadily towards the other side, doing small sections at a time. This way you won't miss anything. Use short, light, downward strokes (with the grain and so on) to remove the bulk of the hair. Use your free hand to pull your skin tight. Rinse the blade often to keep it from clogging.

I personally don't see how people shave against the grain as you said. I remember the first time I did. Had like 40 ingrown hairs in my fucking face.

    Never again.
