Great idea but this does pose a question, what if an idiot decides not to get this and his account ends up getting hacked. Imagine the red tape to get the account back. Lol. Also, this is gonna be a pain if i have to log onto another account -.-.

Do they come in different color schemes?

I'd prefer one in Windurst yellow and green with a picture of Shantotto laughing.

Hah, so they can sell things through the POL Player. Should consider that for item sale like the Tidal Talisman or a tie in to their shop. I distrust the billing provider for the local SE online shop.

you click on device, display a string of random number, you key in on the website along with your user ID, and you go funds transfer. as for how it works, i guess people who have studied computer security will have a clearer picture about key encryption. I believe they use RSA for this, which uses a pretty complex algorithm. Obviously im not going into details because it takes me 30 mins to even do a simple helloworld encryption and decryption exam question.

1 of the safest and secured thingy for internet transaction and data exchange, so i approve this!

the amount of battery needed for this is very minimal, its been 5 years since i got the device for my internet banking, and its still running as of today.

There is also another approach, which is using text messages from your mobile phone subscriber. You click LOGIN from the screen on the internet banking page, and the bank sends you a SMS to your mobile, and you have to enter this pin within 3-5 mins before it expire, and you login. However i wouldnt think SE will do this because it will involve even more cost(both SE and our end). So i guess its a win-win situation for them using this device, PROFIT.
    ooh fellow SG..

lol this reminds me of how annoyed I was when DBS sent the password token to my house in SG and i couldnt do iBanking anymore from the US..
i still prefer citibanks one-time sms pin now tho...

however, since SE is implementing this internationally, i guess the token is the best method.. but they should also give you the option to toggle between token and normal mode, with the option to do it secured by a 1 time password as well.

that way you can have friends log onto your account when needed or for 2boxing or whatever..

this tempts me, but more for the in-game item, if its good

Just because you pay a company doesn't mean you have more security. I have a friend that pays for his antivirus and had to reinstall windows several times due to virus attacks while my free antivirus only got me a few tracking cookies ever (due to me shutting down spybot for 10 minute to check a web page).

Anyone can understand and use RSA (Rivest Shamir Adleman - Wikipédia) though I doubt RMTs and SE are familiar with advanced number theory, fermat theorems and the like.

I'm probably gonna consider getting this based more on the "in-game bonus" than the need for security. I'm personally very paranoid about my browser & password security everywhere.

I'm surprised no one (as far as I can see) has mentioned the ramifications of this device. As a security measure this is an amazingly good step by SE, but A LOT of people share account info within LSs. If you get this for your account NO ONE ELSE can log into your account without YOUR key chain.

Brilliant move by SE, a little late in the implementation but sucks for those who want to share their accounts with friends.

A brilliant idea, but for friend's who use friend's accounts for things like dual-boxing and such, it pretty much fucks them over. Not to mention there's gonna be several people who misplace the Token and then they're fucked as well.

I have the PayPal RSA token (just a rebranded Verisign one) and I love it. It was 5$, I hear the Blizzard one was 6.50$. Cheap enough that you can buy a few, and authorize multiple ones (this would allow you to dualbox a friends account who has one) if they follow the PayPal token model.

Only thing I don't care for on this is that the picture of the SE one is rather bland, I wonder if it will see use outside of FFXI for SE.

And also, lol at people who think this is worthless/hacked within 5 minutes.

As for battery concerns, these types of devices work for years even with massive use.

Oh, one other thing to worry about is the "I forgot my token" problem. Not so much that you forgot it and are screwed, but that some places (PayPal) seem to just let you say you forgot it and then ask you for your first and last name and your last 4 credit card number (aka pretty easy info to get) and they'll skip over it.

People who share their account info can simply not get this device, it's not like they're going to be requiring these for everyone...

I think I'd only get this for the ingame item. While the keychain is sweet for security and will help the more paranoid..

...I have a tendency to lose little things if there not bolted down to the floor. Knowing SE, the'll ask for my POL codes to unhook everything from my device or something.

Watch SE charge as much as the Tidal Talisman when the WoW ones are a fraction of the price.

How does this fuck anyone over when it's completely voluntary? As was pointed out on page one(what a shock people didn't read the fucking thread) if you like to share your account, this isn't for you.

Glad they finally got around to doing this, if only for the community's peace of mind. My only gripe with it is that SE will not ship to Canada, like normal.

You'll get no argument from me there. However, you also have to look at the people manufacturing said item.

Anyone remember SE's nation rings that tarnished and rusted after weeks? Like I had mentioned before, dies anyone remember SE' "random number generator" for the ps2 mog lottery? It was impossible for a person using the randomizer on the ps2 to win the grand prize.

While paying for something doesn't automatically mean good quality, in this case you should leave things like this up to the people who know how to do them right. Remember, this is all assuming SE didn't pay for the real thing. For all we know, they did.

But coming back for your +1 and complaining about it certainly helps the cause.

I was pointing out the limitation, not stating it was a problem for dualboxers.

The in-game item is going to be a gangsta padlock body.

I've seen a similar system used for logging into a medical records database...so...probably acceptable to keep your video game character safe.
