Sorry if i explained myself poorly. English is not my main language.
No you cant get trojan just by trading with someone in game. I used the trading as hypothetical scenario that could trigger the activation of trojan that is already installed in your PC because of poor computer security (e.g. visiting hacked websites like somepage.com) or from popular 3rd party software which source code is not open for public.
I belive most accounts are stolen so they can be looted.![]()
>.> Not only is it common in the gaming industry for EU to be a bit behind everyone else, why would you be shocked if they release it all at once?
Btw, no one is 'sitting open to be hacked' if you actually know wtf you're doing >.> because there's still plenty of people who haven't been hacked even in the waves of hackings.
Seeing that they posted the announcement in every regional version of the ffxi site, my guess is that it will be made availible in all regions where the game is sold. However, the pricing is very likely to differ. It's also likely that it will be difficult for someone who imported the game from another region to get one.
And, in my opinion, this thing shouldn't be an excuse for a tedious character recovery system/policy. There are some free games that are better at that than ffxi.
Thank you SE.
Thank you.
the only 100% secure system is a computer that's off. in a 3 foot thick block of concrete. buried. at the bottom of the mariana trench. computer security is never 100% foolproof, but rather centered around risk mitigation. this tool is merely another method to mitigate the risk. by using this device we now operate on a three factor authentication scheme. no longer is it just what you know, but what you have too. you must know the password and you must have the keychain to get the one time password (OTP). even beyond that, those passwords expire which offer us an additional dimension of security: WHEN you know. it's no longer possible for an account's information to be compromised by a trojan and then used at the thief's leisure to pilfer the contents. there is now a minute by minute imperitive to use the credentials to access the account. this dramatically narrows the timeframe in which the thief could access stolen accounts as they can't backlog passwords they stole before the trojan was discovered and dealt with and continue to steal accounts for days or weeks until the backlog is cleaned out. now instead they have a very finite window to attack and once that's up, they're done. it's not a perfect system, no. nothing is. well nothing except what i described above. the question is if it's a BETTER system. to that, i'd have to answer yes. it makes us more secure than we were, so it's at least a step in the right direction.
So how would this pan out for hacked accounts in the future? Would SE's policy be the same, or would they become lazy? It would be interesting to find out how SE will handle hacked accounts in the future, after this product has a few months on the market.
The security-nerd in me jumped for joy, the common-sense-nerd in me saw this as another way for SE to make bank off their broken POL interface. "We could encrypt our files better, or we could charge everyone for it if they want their secure passwords!" D: I will be buying one like the rest of you, but it'll leave a bad taste in my mouth. (no pun intended, I don't plan on eating it. >_> )
Honestly I'm intrigued more about the in-game item than anything.
its going to be a special pair of specs that allow you to see the monster's lot pool before you even attack it
Steam tried this. It really, really doesn't work.
On another note, about pricing! Any speculation? The WoW ones sell for $7.50 iirc and have been sold out for months now.

WoW also has more than 6m (more?) subscribers.
If anything id expect the first batch to sell out fairly quick, then there'll be a bitchfest where everyone will say "Where the hell is my token???" It'll take a month or 2 to get the people who *really* want this to get it. Then demand will die down until its there is a steady demand and supply readily available.
Are you sure?

Or iTunes songs costing 0.99 $/€...
So glad I've got an US account... 12€/month with 3 mules ftw.
I would pay double for a usb attachment so I don't have to manually enter it every time I log back in.
Note that is is a SE online security token and just not a FFXI one. It also says it will be used through playonline. I bet they are adding this exclusively for preparation for rapture but they might as well get it out there now since rapture is a year away from any serious release. They just blatantly stole the idea from blizzard anyways so it would not have been hard to implement.
For me this pretty much confirms rapture will go though playonline. Hopefully we will get a playonline over haul though.
Years away from any serious release.
I'll probably get one, just because I have spent 5 years playing this game and don't want it to end cause I loaded a bad animated .gif when I visited a website.
Questions:
Willl one device be syncable to multiple accounts?
If you already have a similar device for WoW or your bank, can it be used for your FFXI account?
