That kind of logic is like if someone said Reverse Flourish is similar in principal to Meditate cuz it gives like 60% tp, then youd say its not like meditate cuz meditate gives 160 TP with AF/AF2.
Also 22acc fulltime is better than 30 acc for 1 minute. Stop talking about monks anyway, all I said was our 2 acc traits are equatable to the ability 'Focus', my argument isn't contingent on any piece of gear that enhances it.
First of all, you said 22 acc is as good as a 100% focus, which would mean full time for both. Second of all, why comment on a job you don't know shit about? Focus is 2 minutes, not one.
As for reverse flourish, could say its like SUBBING sam for meditate for 60 tp, but even as sam main you'd get at least 100 and after 60 that af1 head is going to be available to pretty much every sam that is competent enough to play ffxi
I have both Aurum and recently obtained Askar, but I still use the Aurum Cuirass. As ugly as it is, the stats are better for TP purposes. Once V.Fork finally drops I will reevaluate that opinion, but I'm leaning towards Aurum still being better.
I'll also side with prioritizing Haste over DEX. Using a DEX-based crit hit setup for merits is understandable, but when fighting anything of significant difficulty stacking all that DEX isn't going to do all that much. You'll see better crit hit returns raising the stat directly with Claymore Grip, and Zahak's Mail for WS. In general Haste will have greater returns.
I lol'd
No offense Ophannus but if you're arguing with Veggeto over how MNK works then well.... I feel for ya..
@ Xanthe,
I have both also and honestly I feel Askar compliments the Fork more then Aurum Body does. If I had Ares Body I'd try that out as well in comparasion to Askar/Zahak's Mail.
Ares's is definitely "lackluster" for TP compared to Askar or Aurum, especially when aiming for 6-hit. I only TP in Ares's these days if I'm mage sub, which is normally only in Campaign. For Drakesbane I would put Aurum or Zahak's over Ares's. I've been using Zahak's paired with Claymore Grip lately and the number of crits is better, but my overall max is down, most likely from the loss of attack. Hecatomb Subligar would probably be the best complimenting piece in this situation, if only I had it. Ares's for the occasional Impulse Drive or Wheeling Thrust, Aurum for Penta Thrust. I'd never consider WSing in Askar over those pieces.
Yeah I wouldn't either. I was using hecatomb harness until Zahak's as far as soloing tho I agree 100% for Ares body. I use Aurum Legs for WS damage since the only damn thing I had before then was Barone Legs![]()
I was under the impression that Rajas + Brutal + Ecphoria + Valk. Fork is a true 6-hit build. By that logic, Aurum would be inferior compared to Ares/Askar, right?
And between Ares and Askar...you're essentially comparing STR+7 Attack+12 vs. Double Attack+2 Store TP+5. Askar opens up Toreador in the place of Ecphoria, but you wouldn't give up Rajas or Brutal in a TP build. I'm probably missing something important, but Ares seems like the better option to Askar in that situation.
For /sam, you need either ecphoria AND chiv chain or white tathlum. So you can remove love torque and tor for chiv and ecphoria or trade black tathlum for white tathlum.
As for Askar vs Aurum, if you bothered to read the thread you'd see that 6 acc > 2% DA as I already showed in post 18
Admittedly I skimmed through most of it, but aren't you just a beautiful ray of sunshine.
The combination you listed falls short of a true 6-hit build. With a standard 492 delay polearm it requires an average of 26 Store TP per hit. Your combo provides 15+5+1+1+3 = 25. In short, Askar or Aurum is required to hit that mark without sacrificing stats, especially for Gungnir wielders. Furthermore, Ecphoria Ring is a subpar solution to reach 6-hit. It was already noted that the 8 DEX(6 accuracy/3% hitrate) on Aurum will outperform 2% Double Attack from Askar. Add a Toreador instead of Ecphoria for another 1.5% hitrate.
A much larger advantage to using Aurum Cuirass over other alternatives comes out of what I said before: a true 6-hit build requires an average of 26 store TP per hit. That means you need 26 Store TP on average between all melee hits, jumps, and the first hit of weapon skills. Now if you have exactly 26 Store TP on melee hits, it follows that you need 26 for jumps and weapon skills as well. This places a limit on what gear you can change for weapon skills and jumps, holding back your performance. Say you use /SAM, Aurum Cuirass, Rajas Ring, and Brutal Earring for TP. That yields 28 Store TP per melee hit. Use it for Drakesbane and High Jump as well. Now use Ares's Cuirass instead for Jump, giving 21 Store TP. Having 28 Store TP for 5 actions and 21 Store TP for the 6th (Jump) averages 26 Store TP. Take away the Aurum Cuirass on Drakesbane and High Jump and your average falls to 24, breaking a true 6-hit build. In fact, when I started trying out Zahak's Mail for Drakesbane I lost 6-hit as well, averaging only 25 Store TP. Yes, additional hits can cover the difference, but they do not count when determining a build. I've posted extensively on the subject before, both here on BG and on the KI DRG forums.
In short: you need an average of 26 Store TP, Aurum Cuirass is an amazing piece, and don't put so much stock in Double Atttack.
Going for a "true" 6-hit for the most accurate job in the game with a 4-hit weaponskill is dumb.
Concerning DEX: if you can get anywhere near 118 DEX in TP (I only realistically see a mithra using love halberd do that) askar hands might still lose to homam hands for merits since you'll be able to ride hasso and get marches and haste a lot of times. The few % crit you'd get isn't all that spectacular since a crit is at the most a 50% increase in damage in merits.
Potentially. There are many different factors that tie in to what setup works best. As I stated earlier my highs took a hit when I switched to Zahak's Mail, most likely due to the loss of attack. I'd need to load up some older parses to see how the average has faired. Without Hecatomb Subligar, Aurum Cuirass might perform better than Zahak's Mail. Also if using a V.Fork the issue goes away since your minimum Store TP is raised by 3. Aurum Cuirass would only be needed on melee hits, freeing up the body slot on jumps and weapon skills. In fact, Askar Korazin would also provide enough Store TP when paired with V.Fork, which is what S N K was getting at when he stated Askar and Fork compliment each other well. However, the Additional STR, DEX, and Attack on Aurum Cuirass would still outweigh the Double Attack on Askar Korazin.
I'm curious about the use of Blitz Ring on DRG. Would this set up be enough balance in a merit pt?
Main: Valkyrie's Fork
Sub: Pole Grip
Ammo: Black Tathlum
Head: Walahra Turban
Neck: Love Torque
Ear1: Brutal Earring
Ear2: Assault Earring
Body: Askar Korazin
Hands: Dusk Gloves +1
Ring1: Rajas Ring
Ring2: Blitz Ring
Back: Cerb. Mantle +1
Waist: Velocious Belt
Feet: Homam Gambieras
Legs: Homam Cosciales
22% Haste but seems a little light on the acc side
I know this is semi off the topic since this is a thread on TPing on DRG, but I started some tests on 118 Dex setups on Birds for Drakesbane, Building one gear set around Ares's body, and the other on Zahak's. I don't get a ton of time to test diffrent things, so far my data is very limited (limited to 3 hours of meriting on Colibri).
I have most anything that is worth testing with for DRG, if it doesn't go on the leg slot.. (no N.Legs yet, no Ares's Legs yet) Also missing Aurum Body.
I Have Askar, Ares, Zahaks, V.fork, Black Tathlum etc. As I get more data I'll post more of my results.
What I could also do is tune my TPing setup to try to parse that also to follow some of the things in this thread.
As I finish up some more tests I'll post the gear sets used in both setups, the Drakes Averages for each setup etc.
So far my results agree with your statment. Again using 118 Dex as the basis, then you can change any gear around to try to get the most STR ATT ACC as needed. The Ares's Setup which had higher Attack, beat out the Zahak's Setup which had a lower Attack, but slightly higher STR (and the 3% more crits). Again this was over 3 hours (1.5 hours on each Setup for Drakes) so I'd not call it even remotly conclusive. I did have a few 2000-2300 Drakes in the Ares's setups, and i dont recall without looking back at the parses which are at home getting more then 1800 on the Zahak's setup. Also I was not concerned with a X-hit build at all this was all about the WS, so Gear chosen on Drakes setups are not factoring in TP return.
