Another reason the date isn't very believable is that Christmas Eve is a horrible release date from a business stand point. If you wanted to capitalize on the Christmas season, Black Friday to early December would be the best bet. No parent is going to wait in line on Dec. 23rd for their children, but a ton are going to be doing it on Thanksgiving anyway.

I guess you could plan on all the kids with their best buy gift cards that they got, but you would still completely miss the xmas shopping season (im sure you know but, despite this year for obvious reasons, the time is unmatched in terms of people spending money).

Diablo 3 isnt a MMO, nor was Diablo 2 etc. They're considered "hack n slash" games I believe, or "dungeon crawlers". They're multiplayer and all, nothing as in depth as a MMO usually is time wise.

To be honest, D3 could be a lot closer to an "MMO" than D2 was depending on how the gameplay turns out. It all depends on how they tweak everything. Much like WoW took a lot of elements from D2, I will not be surprised if D3 contains a lot of elements from WoW.

That's why I liked Baldur's gate, felt a little like Diablo. Besides, there's nothing wrong with some hack and slash. It can be just as fun as other games, I'm really looking forward to playing Diablo 3. If they added any aspects of MMO's to this game it would just make it that much more interesting for me.

Ugh... Change the title to "Diablo III release date - When it's finished" please.

I want my 5 minutes back, these trolls aren't even good.

We'll see what happens is a multiplayer trail version is coming out in september that seems a little soon considering starcraft II, a game they have been working on for longer than D3 has yet to see any sort of 'trial' and it too will use Battle.net 2.0. So we'll see.

Would honestly think D3 easier to code than SC2, honestly. Only thing that'd make it harder is how difficult they decide to make quests or possible randomization of quests/areas.

I think coding is not really the issue. Coming to a clear consensus on content and then balance testing seem to usually take the longest when it comes to Blizzard games. Even though D3 won't be quite as person vs person focused as SC2, it surely will still have some. And making sure they are balanced for PvP and fairly even in PvE will make that even harder. Don't get me wrong, how ambitious they are with adding content is going to add time to the final release, but nothing adds time like balance testing. It just takes a seriously large amount of time to go through tons of iterations of skill sets to find what works best.

And lol @ Christmas Eve release date.

Gosh it's just like that other time someone 'leaked' a release date for a Blizzard title. That was totally true and newsworthy, right?

I played D3 at Blizzcon, and being they still have 2 or 3 more classes to announce + the fact the build I got to play in October was still early alpha. Maybe 12-24-10 would be more realistic. But as someone else said, a major title like this won't be put out the day before xmas. Especially with the potential tech support nightmare any new release has regardless of the company. (hi2u RTFM)
