Linguistic study of game categorization:

I'm starting a study on categorization of game genres, and over time will ask a series of questions.

For the first question, the only requirement is you played or have knowledge of two of the games in the following list.


What 10 defining traits do the following games share?

The only games I've played out of those are Zelda (I assume you mean the original for NES?) and Crystalis. I'll PM you with a crappy list I guess, lol...

I played Crystallis, Faxanadu and Zelda. Crystallis was a really good Zelda type game for Nintendo. Dont really remember Fax too much I think it was too difficult or something. And Zelda well.. it was ok. But i havnt played or even heard of several of the others so i cant reply.

The only games up there I have played or heard of are the Zelda games. Though if I had to wager a guess based on the names all of those games sound like Fantasy games.

Beyond that I do not know some might be fantasy/action or fantasy/rpg or any other variation.

I'm not too surprised many gamers don't remember most of those games ;0, but that is part of why this study is important(well...to me at least).

And when I list a game I mean the entire series, so "Zelda" means up to TP and "Ys" means as recent as this year, Faxanadu/Xanadu also have very recent installments.

There is no answer I'm sitting here hoping that people choose, it's not a guessing game, so if anyone is worried about being "wrong" don't be.

Categorization(how we organize thoughts) is part of linguistics.

I've played Zelda, Crystalis, and Illusion of Gaia....I'll PM you the first thing that came to my mind when I thought of those 3 games.

After I've collected data from question #3 I'll explain the whole process, until then I wouldn't mention it, cause it would taint future data if people knew what I was actually testing for.
