I just tried here and i am not able to ping Battle.net - Welcome to the Battle.net Web Site! either

the possibilities can be alot but the biggest one, might be that their firewall is blocking any enting ping, which makes it like dissapear

my question is why do you need to ping battle.net?

any special reason or just for fun?

As stated, being (un)able to ping a site does not preclude you from browsing to it. It's a simple test that can often be used to check connections, but many agencies block differing types of requests to prevent various kinds of network attacks; blocking ICMP is common to prevent DDoS attempts which often simply employ mass quantities of computers to send ping requests to the target network.

If you can't connect to bnet, I suggest calling blizzard, as you're not likely to get too far on your own; your system is DNS resolving them, and you can get to other sites and networks, so it's not a carrier failure.

Let's look at possible lag issues (not being able to ping the site is because they don't allow it- why would they).

    1) Are you at a school, or is this your home connection? Schools love to destroy game connections.
    2) Are you going overboard with background downloading (I'm sure you would have said something on that though)? Heavy torrent users that don't set up auto-throttle will kill their upload/download and choke their machine.

With nothing but the game on, sometimes I lag sometimes I don't (can start lagging in a game and 10 mins later stop lagging in the same game), not my firewall, not my router so irdk.

iirc you can ping useast.battle.net to check if you're banned, wich would result in a 100% packet loss, but that's not my case and I still get 100% packet loss.

Btw sorry for asking this here, but tech support forums are down @ blizz

your sure its not your router because.... you tested it with your modem directly to your pc and same issue?

i am pretty sure you need to unblock some ports for some of blizzards games, check out here.

    Blizzard Support

    StarCraft:
    - Allow port 6112 TCP and UDP out and in
maybe this will fix your problem.

Thanks for trying, but I know it's not a router or firewall problem, that port is open and firewall is configured to allow both the program sc and the port 6112.

Do a tracert to useast.battle.net. That will let you know if there is packet loss or high ping times on the way to battle.net

You either need to read the rest of the posts in the thread or learn what tracert does

Like i said Blizzard is blocking the ping/tracert for a single reason

There'S a lot of bots latly that all they do is ping IP adresses to find one that respond

When they find it, they spam differents ports to try to find one to enter and hack it.

But it's not because you can't ping that you can't play so the problem of lag is somewhere else

edit : the blocking Ping is a good way to secure yourself a bit like i said but if you do ping www.playonline.com it works which means SE doesnt care or w/e lol

Blizzard doesn't want your French packets.

On a serious note, I used to have a very similar problem playing WoW. Internet and other things worked fine though. Are you using a router? WRT54G? If so, upgrade the firmware (DO NOT DO IT WIRELESSLY). Fixed the problem for me.
