yeah, i just don't understand how merging all of spam into one thread was better for anything rather than just deleting a bunch. or you know, continuing separate threads.

I would assume it's because you got rid of all the overhead.

I would guess that each topic has to have it's own overhead, who posted it, when, where, etc. Merging all of that would get rid of a lot of overhead and leave just the content.

I'm not sure how these forums work, but usually posts and threads are never actually deleted. They are held in the system, just set that only the moderation team with enough power can see them. I'm unsure of how the merge system works, but I'd imagine it keeps some of the info.

If you wanted to replace the OP of a thread, an easy way to do it is to steal a post from another sub forum (spam is useful in this) and put it into that there thread. So long as that moved post is older than the OP, it becomes the OP.

Merging doesn't achieve anything beyond cleaning up the forum or padding threads to look more active.

The problem is when mod R decide to merge A with B while mod M merge B with A. A+B = 158 699 posts and all this while a hundred people are reading these posts and replying to them too.
