Scarlett Johansson is joining the superhero set.

Her rep confirms that the actress has signed on to play Black Widow in the Iron Man sequel opposite Robert Downey Jr. The deal was signed this afternoon.

"Scarlett is thrilled to be a part of Iron Man," her rep, Marcel Pariseau, tells me.

The Wrestler's comeback kid, Mickey Rourke, has finally sealed a deal to play villain Whiplash, according to Variety.

Rourke's team had reportedly held out for more money after Marvel's initial offer was just $250,000.

Scheduled for a May 2010 release, part two of the franchise will also include Gwyneth Paltrow returning as Pepper Potts, along with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle playing Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

Yeah, I think they could've got a better Rhodie. I love Don Cheadle as an actor, but can't see him being as good as Terrence Phillips. Just doesn't seem to fir the role. I'm indifferent about Scarlett. She is quite the piece of ass to stare at on screen, and I won't be complaining about seeing her in skintight leather, but her acting is um... questionable. I would have preferred Emily Blunt. She has the look and accent down. Scarlett doesn't really have either, oh well. Mickey Rourke is a great addition, and I'm glad Marvel renegotiated with him. I hope to see him a bit more in upcoming films.

If Scarlett is really cast though, I'm reconsidering my excitement. She needs to go die. She's hot as hell, but she can act for shit, and has the most annoying voice ever. And her repeated rape of Tom Waits made me cry.

Yeah, the difference was money. But we're not too sure if it was Terrence's ego wanting more money or the company not giving him enough money for the role. I think if Cheadle is going to play it, it was probably Terrence, heh. Cheadle has been in a good number of movies that I can recall semi-lately, so I doubt he was desperate for the part, money was probably good.

From what I remember seeing somewhere on the forums, Terrence got paid way more than anyone else on the first because he was one of the first to sign on and then it couldn't be re-negotiated. Then when they dropped his pay down in the realm of everyone else in the second, he or his agent said no, so they dropped him. Any or all of that could be wrong since I'm too lazy to go google around and fact check.
