Kate Mara Joins and Clark Gregg Returns for Iron Man 2

    http://media2.firstshowing.net/first...onman2-img.jpg

Two minor casting updates for Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2. We Are Marshall actress Kate Mara has joined the cast, and Choke writer/director/actor Clark Gregg has officially returned to reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. We know who Gregg is set to play, but Mara's role is "being kept under wraps." That's a bit odd, considering Favreau and company are already shooting in Manhattan Beach. No hints as to who she might play, but I'm intrigued by her casting. We already know that Scarlett Johansson is playing Black Widow and Gwyneth Paltrow is back as Pepper Potts, so what other female characters are there?

If you haven't been following Jon Favreau's Twitter, you should be, as he updates it quite often and occasionally posts cool photos like this one of his director's chair. So far it sounds like everything has been going great. On the same day he posted two great updates: "Wrapped. Heading home. Robert was on fire. We're hitting our stride," as well as, "Scarlett's first day. Very exciting." In addition, if you didn't hear previously, small cameo roles have been shot featuring actors Garry Shandling and Gary Oldman, but no one really knows much about who they play. Those are all the latest updates from the set of Iron Man 2.

Execs Made "Very, Very Bad Choice"
by Us Magazine    April 23, 2009

Marvel "didn't honor my contract," says the actor, who was replaced in the sequel by Don Cheadle

Terrence Howard is not pleased he was replaced in the "Iron Man" sequel over a reported salary dispute.

"Marvel made a choice, and it was a very, very bad choice," the actor -- whose role was given to Don Cheadle -- tells Parade.com. "They didn't keep their word. They didn't honor my contract."

Howard says producers didn't share the profits of the flick -- which earned over $318 million -- with most of the actors.

"They produced a great bounty with the first one, but they put it all in the storehouse and you were not allowed in," he says. "They did the same thing with Gwyneth Paltrow , from what I've been told.

The only person who got a raise?

"They did it with everyone but Robert Downey [Jr]," fumes Howard. "One of the things that actors need to do is always stick together: one for all, and all for one."

Even though he's upset, he's not spilling any details from the anticipated sequel.

"I've seen the script, I know what's going to happen -- but I'm not revealing anything. I believe in karma," he says. "When someone does something wrong, you don't have to get them back. Everything right will return the favor for you."

He'll still watch the follow up -- which also stars Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke -- in theaters.

"I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the movie. I want to see Don Cheadle become me. No, I want him to do better than me," Howard says. "That's what I really want to see. Don Cheadle was the reason I got 'Crash,' so I have a lot of love for him."

That's funny. He's pissed at the studio, possibly RDJ too, but is going to see it in theaters.

If Scarlett is really cast though, I'm reconsidering my excitement. She needs to go die. She's hot as hell, but she can act for shit, and has the most annoying voice ever. And her repeated rape of Tom Waits made me cry.
Will probably happen in the flick

Don Cheadle doesn't look like Rhodes, and he never will. I mean, wtf is this bullshit? Howard deserves his fucking money.

Of course he does, especially when you aren't the one paying that money.

I'm not too worried about Cheadle. The man is way beyond a one dimensional actor, and I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls through. Good actors become people they are not on screen, that's what they do.

Intrigued by the Tim Robbins rumor, Shawshank's one of my all time favs. Who played the father in the first movie anyway? I don't think he even had a scene, just showed up on the opening presentation of that man of the year award or something.

I hate when they start throwing in random super hero/villains >.>

Don Cheadle is a great actor, but the guy from Spawn would be a good War Machine.

That's somewhat true, but Don Cheadle looks nothing like War Machine (though he is a great actor, WM was a big military dude). Samuel Jackson is Nick Fury ~.~ another good actor that does not fit the description in any way (other than age).

Edit: I retract my previous statement, RDJ should play both roles...

I could argue that RDJ looks nothing like Tony Stark in the comic but what it comes down to is does the actor have the chops to pull off the role. I think Don Cheadle will do just fine.

Not entirely on topic, but, how could you possibly argue that Tony Stark and RDJ do not look extremely alike?

Just because they're white dudes with facial hair? Their facial features are totally different. Stark in the comic looks very similar to Clark Gable but like I said, Acting > looks.

True enough. His look changes from decade to decade & artist to artist. But I can't say RDJ looks like any version of Stark on the page.

I don't even know why I'm going on, the Iron Man comic was never that interesting to me.
