Seth Rogen and Kevin Hart have found their next project. Variety reports that the actors are going to star in an untitled police comedy for Paramount Pictures. The studio reportedly won a bidding war for a pitch by Rodney Rothman (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Year One, Get Him To The Greek), who is producing under his Viking Funeral banner. Rogen and Evan Goldberg will also produce, and Hart will serve as executive producer.

Rogen and Hart will play cops in the film, which is being pitched as "the first interracial police pairing in law enforcement history." Rothman and Rogen worked together on Undeclared. Rothman recently produced The Five-Year Engagement," which is his fourth film for Judd Apatow. Universal bought his horror script for The Something, which he plans to make his directorial debut.

Precocious doesn't even begin to describe Henry James Herman, a petri dish child who writes rabble-rousing manifestos on the nature of truth... at age 10. This boy-genius misfit's world turns upside down when--to the dismay of the doting single mother who raised him--he embarks on a search for his biological father.

Just as Lost writer Brian K. Vaughan returns to the comic world with his new original series titled Saga, there is movement on another Vaughan creation, Y: The Last Man.

Writing duo Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia are in final negotiations to write New Line Cinema's adaptation of the acclaimed Vertigo comic book. J.C. Spink, Chris Bender and David Goyer are producing. Mason Novick and Jake Weiner are executive producing.

The comic, created by Vaughan and Pia Guerra, centers on Yorick, an escape artist who is the last survivor of a mysterious plague that has killed every male mammal in the world. With his pet monkey, he sets out to find what might have wiped out the world's male chromosomes.

The project has been long in development at New Line and came close to taking off in an incarnation with a script by Carl Ellsworth and D.J. Caruso attached as director.

Now Federman and Scaia will go back to the drawing board.

The duo is somewhat new to the feature world but are hot out of the gate - Y is the second studio job in five months after booking Sony’s untitled Zorro origin project — but they have plenty of genre TV credits. Federman and Scaia were writer-producers on Charlie’s Angels, Human Target, Warehouse 13 and Jericho.

They are repped by CAA, Mosaic and lawyers Mark Wetzstein and Bruce Gellman.

Clerks is, without a doubt, the first film most people think of when they think of writer-director Kevin Smith. It proved so popular that it even paved the way for an animated prime-time series on ABC. The original cast (Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith) all reprised their roles in voice-over form and were joined by Alec Baldwin, who played a hysterical, maniacal Vincent Price-lookalike businessman named Leonardo Leonardo. The clerks would often be caught up in his quest for domination until he was thwarted by them. Even though the show was heavily toned down both in language and adult situations from its live-action R-rated counterpart (for example, turning Jay and Silent Bob from drug dealers to fireworks salesmen), its comedy was a bit broader. The show didn't last very long, with only two episodes airing on television. It was soon released to DVD, where it gained a cult audience. This same situation occured with Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy, only it was given a second chance and has been insanely successful and on the air ever since. Now it looks as though Clerks: The Animated Series is about to get the same treatment.

Kevin Smith announced through Twitter to a fan named @Just_Reboot that "Miramax 2.0 and I are hoping to [make] new eps weekly next year." While it is unknown where this will occur - television, Internet, DVD - I am very excited to see this happen. I am a huge fan of the show and I eagerly look forward to new episodes. This also would allow Smith to bypass Clerks III while still keeping his eye on his beloved characters.

Here is some cool concept art for Mike Le Han's City of Shadows, which was created by artist Paul Gerrard. Gerrard is known for his work on Battle: LA and Wrath of the Titans. Le Han last worked on Mrs. Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room, which was a hit on the festival circuit.

City of Shadows is an epic post-apocalyptic scifi fantasy film, that is set in the aftermath of an alien invasion. The story follows protagonist "Mason Hunter waking up in the middle of an epic war. Human civilisation is being eradicated completely and only few people are left. As the story moves on, Mason has to find out that he himself might be the very cause of the apocalypse."

The script is done, and Le Han has already received interest from a number of buyers. The pitch package is set to be released in the upcoming weeks.

Comingsoon reports that Michael K. Williams is set to play Wu-Tang Clan's Ol' Dirty Bastard (Russell Jones) in a new biopic. Dirty White Boy is being developed by Lars Knudsen and Jack Vay Hoy's Parts & Labor, the team who produced Mike Mills' Beginners. They are working with Todd Hagopian at Ocean Size Pictures to produce the movie about the late rapper. Williams is best known for playing Omar Little on HBO's The Wire and most recently seen as Chalky White on Boardwalk Empire. The film will be directed by first-time Joaquin Baca-Asay based on the screenplay by Brent Hoff.
The film is "based on the true story of Jarred Weisfeld, a 22-year-old VH1 employee from the suburbs who becomes friends with the notorious star and it follows their misadventures right up until the time of Ol' Dirty Bastard's untimely death in 2004. Weisfeld and the rapper's mother Cherry Jones have given their full support and cooperation with Ocean Size Pictures."

Baca-Asay has worked on such films as Mills' Thumbsucker, Rodger Dodger, We Own The Night, and the comedy Super Troopers. He also directed commercials and music videos, having directed the video for Jay Z's "99 Problems" for which he won an MTV Video Award.

Here is a statement from Knudsen and Vay Hoy:

"We both knew full well who Ol' Dirty Bastard was but this story completely floored us. As filmmakers, we knew that this would make a great film and that Jarred Weisfeld would offer an actor a complicated and compelling character to play. This felt to us like 'Risky Business' and '8 Mile,' with equal elements of darkness, humor, and humanity."

"We are thrilled to have the genius of Joaquin Baca-Asay behind the camera, directing this incredibly original screenplay by Brent Hoff. I know Michael K. Williams will leave audiences completely in awe as Russell Jones, the man behind the character ‘Ol' Dirty Bastard," Hagopian added.

'Twins' Sequel 'Triplets' in the Works for Arnold, DeVito...and Eddie Murphy (Exclusive)

The story would reteam Schwarzenegger and DeVito as brothers Julius and Vincent, conceived experimentally, who discover they have third sibling.

Is the world ready for a sequel to Twins?

Universal and Montecito Picture Co. are hoping to develop a doozy of a follow-up to the 1988 hit comedy that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito that would reunite the two stars.

But wait, there’s a twist: In the new scenario, Eddie Murphy would act as a third brother.

Titled Triplets, the story would see Schwarzenegger and DeVito as brothers Julius and Vincent, conceived experimentally, who discover they have third sibling.

The project doesn’t have a director at this early stage -- Ivan Reitman, who helmed the original, would only act as a producer with his Montecito Picture Co. cohorts Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell, according to sources -- but the hunt is on for writers to develop the idea. Insiders caution that no substantial creative discussions have taken place between Universal and Montecito.

The actors are attached to star.

This wouldn’t be the first sequel to an 1988 film that Universal is working. The studio is developing a sequel to Midnight Run that sees Robert De Niro, one of the film’s two original stars along with Charles Grodin, returning in an incarnation to be directed by Brett Ratner.

Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison productions are teaming up with Paramount Pictures to bring us a remake of the 1987 comedy Summer School. The story centered on a high-school gym teacher played by Mark Harmon who ends up having to cancel his big summer plans to teach an English class full of goof-ball students.

Apparently the studio has been trying to get this movie remade since 2005. Smurfs producer Jordan Kerner was working on trying to get the movie made and according to to THR he would have "made the teacher hard-nosed (as opposed to Harmon's laid-back character) and squaring off against one mischievous student." Star Trek writers and producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci also were developing the movie at one point.

    Looper
    Spoiler: show

"Brick" and "The Brothers Bloom" director Rian Johnson has revealed to Cinematical a more detailed synopsis to his next project - the sci-fi thriller "Looper" starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt:

"Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades. It’s pretty dark in tone, much different from Bloom, and involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future.

Their bosses send their targets hogtied and blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is to simply shoot them in the head and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn’t technically exist, a very clean system.

    Complications set in from there."

Kevin Feige comments on Guardians of the Galaxy (FUCK YES GROOT!!!)
When asked about which non-sequel projects Marvel Studios was prioritizing at the moment, Feige said, "I think whether it's Ant-Man, or Dr. Strange, or The Inhumans, or The Guardians of the Galaxy..."

To which we eagerly cried, "Rocket Racooooon...!"

"We are very excited about bringing things like that, maybe things exactly like that, to the screen. [...] When you tell people, you know what would be really cool? This movie, and there's a raccoon, and there's a tree... And they go, 'What?' And people like you know what it is, and get excited. And the majority of people go, 'Did you say a raccoon and a tree?' 'Oh yeah, they're going to steal the whole movie. They're hilarious.' 'Okay, I'll believe it when I see it.' I like that."

When asked for to confirm that an upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie would be focused on the new team, as opposed to the original team, created in 1969 which had their own well-received series from Jim Valentino in the 1990s, he clarified: "Yeah. It's more Star-Lord and Drax and Gamora, and less Vance Astro and that team."

Still no word on a start date for The Guardians of the Galaxy yet, as it's just one of several new productions Marvel Studios has been pursuing. Feige did assure us that, "We know what our second movie in 2014 is going to be, but we haven't announced it yet."

Electronic Arts is bring their Need for Speed video game franchise to the big screen, and they've hired Real Steel screenwriter John Gatins to develop a pitch for it. He will write and produce the film project, which is currently being shopped around Hollywood. Apparently Warner Bros., Sony and Paramount are all interested in taking on the racing property.

According to the report Paramount is the front-runner, but other bids are still being considered. I could see this being a very hot franchise, especially since the Fast and Furious films have become such a huge success. Of course people are going to want to cash in on a property that has the potential to be a huge success.

99% Sure it's nothing good but

    http://www.gateworld.net/news/2012/0...stargate-sg-1/
    Spoiler: show

Stargate fans are abuzz after a cryptic announcement this weekend that MGM is reviving the original series, Stargate SG-1, in “a new format.” Just what is going on … and is SG-1 back on the small screen more than we can hope for?
The news came not from MGM or any of the series principals but from an independent Los Angeles producer, Darren Thomas, who may be affiliated with Andorra based Ordino Studios, according to a Google search. (Andorra is a small European country near France and Spain.) Thomas reportedly told the audience gathered at the official Stargate convention in Vancouver, B.C. that MGM is collaborating on an SG-1 app for smart phones and tablets (which would be in keeping with Ordino’s areas of expertise).
    But there’s more.
Here is the news as summarized on the Stargate SG-1 Facebook page:
Wow, what a day! Tonight the Stargate Convention in Vancouver, is buzzing with excitement about an earlier announcement made by independent producer, Darren Thomas. Fans were treated to previously unreleased news about MGM’s collaboration on a new SG-1 App designed for smart phones and tablets. The scoop from Thomas is that MGM is reviving SG-1 albeit in a new format — music to the ears of many fans around the world. Thomas didn’t want to divulge more, but he did say that “plans are underway and I wish I could tell you more. The good news is that we will be unveiling something big at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego.” But in the meantime stay tuned for more information right here on the SG-1 official MGM page.
(San Diego Comic-Con will take place in mid-July.)
Based on what other studios have done with their popular science fiction and fantasy franchises, possibilities for future SG-1-related productions run the gambit from online or print comics, to animated projects, to interactive social media applications. (The original television series ran on Showtime, and then Syfy Channel, from 1997 to 2007.)
http://www.gateworld.net/news/wp-con.../01/sg1_03.jpgGateWorld has learned that a press release from MGM and the Andorra studio is imminent (in fact, we were expecting to have it in hand by the time of the convention announcement), though we don’t yet know what it will contain. There is no confirmation that Ordino is involved, but the studio’s Web site does offer some tantalizing clues.
More likely than a live-action project is that producers will take another stab at a Stargate SG-1 video game, perhaps designed with mobile devices in mind (perhaps including social media elements), rather than gaming consoles.
Ordino describes itself as “the newest production studio to offer apps, gaming, animation and spatial experiences.” According to their Web site the studio’s Games Division is hiring:
… developers and artists to be a part of one of the newest hottest gaming labels in Europe. The first project involves an exciting Unity game for a major entertainment franchise. The game will be developed as a First Person 3D Sci-Fi Action Adventure and will include support for all mobile platforms. The game will include a mind-bending story and eye-popping graphics; it will be a plot-twisting, action-packed adventure experience.
“Some of our first projects include building first person mobile games for an established franchise owned by a major U.S. film studio,” the site also says.
A live-action revival for Stargate SG-1 in any form seems unlikely. While it is simple enough to arrange for former SG-1 cast members like Richard Dean Anderson (“Jack O’Neill”), Christopher Judge (“Teal’c”), or Claudia Black (“Vala Mal Doran”) to contribute voice work, reuniting the cast on screen is a tall order. Michael Shanks (“Daniel Jackson”) is currently working on his new series Saving Hope (filming in Toronto), for example. And, while awaiting word on another season of Sanctuary, Amanda Tapping (“Samantha Carter”) is directing for the new series Primeval: New World.
PC games based on SG-1 were previously attempted by Perception Pty and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, under the titles Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, Stargate Worlds, and Stargate: Resistance. Only Resistance saw the light of day, but as an online-only project went offline in 2011 after one year on the market.
Until we know more, we’d advise caution on the speculation — and keep it locked on GateWorld for the very latest!
