http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/8/20...daptation.htmlRob Liefeld's comic book Bloodstrike is getting a feature film adaptation from Adi Shankar's 1984 Private Defense Contractors. The comic was published by Image Comics in 1993, and its creator will write the script and produce the film.
According to Variety Liefeld (who also created Deadpool) has a new angle for the big screen version of his comic, "aimed at creating a franchise appeal, focuses on a Bloodstrike unit consisting of a team of super-soldiers who have secretly been imbued with vampire blood -- making them an elite strike force feared by all enemies." Now it's been awhile since I've read this comic, but I believe the vampire angle is new, but I guess it makes sense and fits with the original story. I just hate that everyone seems to be jumping on this vampire bandwagon. The more vampire movies that are made, the less cool they become.
In the original comic, Bloodstrike is a top-secret, super-powered assassination squad deployed covertly by the United States government. All of the members had already died before becoming members of the team; they were brought back to life by the government's Project: Born Again, which is apparently where they bring them back to life with Vampire blood.
The same production company making this movie is the same one that is doing that all female Expendables movie, and co-financed The Grey.

I would have been happier with a Brigade, Wildcats, or Youngblood movie. Who knows, maybe it will turn out ok.
I guess it's a way to get Wolverine and Cable in a movie and not get sued by Fox/Marvel/Disney?

http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/8/21...rocketeer.htmlAh, come on! Really? According to a recent report Disney plans on rebooting Joe Johnston's awesome 1991 classic The Rocketeer. Hell! I just got the Blu-ray version of the film not too long ago. I loved The Rocketeer, and it's sad that Disney has decided to do it all over again. At least the original will always be there for us fans to enjoy.
I just think it would benefit Disney to actually try and develop some original material. But they're obviously looking for some sure fire ways to make easy money, and remaking other films is a way of minimizing risk, because people are already familiar with it. The Rocketeer wasn't a very successful movie when it came out, but over the years it's gained a pretty big following. I always have to remind myself that the accountants run Hollywood, not the creative people. It all comes down to making money.
According to Vulture the studio will start meeting with various writers soon to come up with a new take on the movie. Personally I think it would be cool if they made a sequel to the movie instead. Why the hell not? I'm curious to see how this plays out. It's still in the very early stages, so who knows if anything will ever come of it. If they do move forward with it, their challenge will be to make it better than the original. If they don't out do the original, then who cares?
The story is set in the 1930's, and follows a young pilot who stumbles onto a prototype jetpack developed by Howard Hughes that allows him to become a high flying masked hero. Of course the Nazi's want it for themselves to help them take over the world.

http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/8/23...pirates-5.htmlI have no idea if this is true or not, but it's being reported that Johnny Depp wants $90-95 million dollars to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 5. That's one hell of a crazy payday if it's true and if Disney agrees to it.
There's two reasons why Depp could be asking for this much money. One reason would be to price himself out of the picture so he doesn't have to make a fifth Pirates film. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer previous revealed that a fifth Pirates script was in the works, but that he would only make it with Depp on board.
The other reason was given by an inside source who told The Sun newspaper via The Age:
So the second reason is that it would allow him to make the kind of movies he really wants to make.[Depp is] being very careful he does not sign on for too many films. This huge deal for Pirates means he will be able to pick his other roles very carefully on the strength of their script rather than their salary.
Here's a financial breakdown of the first four Pirates films:
- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides: $1,043,871,802 ($250 million production budget)
- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: $963,420,425 ($300 million production budget)
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest: $1,066,179,725 ($225 million production budget)
- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl: $654,264,015 ($140 million production budget)

http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/8/27...etty-good.htmlThere's been some talk recently about another new X-Files film. David Duchovny gave an interview saying that he wants another X-Films film to happen. Hell! We all want it to happen! And now it looks like our wishes might end up becoming a reality!
During a panel at the Toronto Fan Expo this last Sunday, Gillian Anderson showed up and was asked if we would see a third movie... this was her response,
Hell yeah! I'm excited to see that all of this thinking about making a new X-Files move has turned into an actual discussion! It's awesome to see that all of the main players are on board, and that they're talking to each other about making it a reality, now all we need is for Fox to want to make it as well. Here's what Duchovny previously had to say about another X-Files movie,I met with [series creator Chris Carter] before coming here and it's looking pretty good.
That book doesn’t close until somebody dies, really. One of the greatnesses of the show was its open-endedness. It was about possibility. It wasn’t about closure. It just couldn’t be. There is no such thing as that story ever ending. Those characters are forever searching. That’s what they do. Even if we’re not watching them, they’re out there, in some dimension. Mulder and Scully are still doing their thing ‘cause that’s their nature.
I would love to do another film, or more. I think we’re all game for it. I know I’m kind of perplexed that Fox isn’t more [enthusiastic]. Here’s a homegrown property that you don’t have to go buy, like fuckin’ Green Lantern or something, to make it. Here you’ve got an actual action franchise that’s your own.

Looks like there might be an official Evil Dead 4.
Sam Raimi Blocks Unauthorized 'Evil Dead' Sequel
In May, Renaissance Pictures -- formed in 1979 by Raimi, producer Robert Tapert and actor-producer Bruce Campbell for the purpose of making the first Evil Dead film -- sued Award Pictures, which was in the midst of making Evil Dead 4: Consequences. The movie was alleged to be interfering with Raimi's plan to make his own sequel for Sony Pictures and FilmDistrict.
another one besides this one?

The Doctor will return, Joss Whedon promises.
The long-awaited follow-up to the 2008 made-for-Internet hit "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" is still very much in the works, Whedon assures. He hopes to get it into production "within the next year," Whedon said Tuesday. (He was pressed by Variety on the fate of the "Dr. Horrible" sequel after he moderated a Q&A with Mike Birbiglia and Ira Glass following a screening of the duo's IFC feature "Sleepwalk With Me" at the Writers Guild Theater in BevHills.)
The appetite for more "Dr. Horrible" will be whetted on Oct. 9 when the CW gives the offbeat, 42-minute superhero-tuner its first TV airing, as the kickoff to the launch of its fall season.
One of the major hold-ups to producing the follow-up has been the fact that Whedon keeps "employing the people who will work on it" in other capacities, he noted.
The original "Dr. Horrible," which starred Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day, was penned by Whedon and his brothers, Jed and Zack Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen. Jed Whedon and Tancharoen worked for Joss on his 2009-2010 Fox drama "Dollhouse," and they have been recruited to help him co-write a pilot for ABC and Marvel TV this year based on Nick Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D. espionage org featured in Joss' summer blockbuster "The Avengers." The storyline of the TV series will be "autonomous" to the features, Joss Whedon said. The "Avengers 2" sequel is, not surprisingly, is already slated for a May 2015 release.
If the ABC pilot is ordered to to series, Jed Whedon and Tancharoen would serve as showrunners with Jeffrey Bell. Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb also exec produces.
The original "Dr. Horrible" made a splash as a made-for-Internet event that preemed over three nights in July 2008 via free streaming, and then was made available as a paid iTunes download for a limited time.
Joss Whedon said they haven't decided how they'll handle distribution of the follow-up but intend to take a "media-agnostic" approach to the production.
'bout time.
http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/8/31...an-expect.htmlPacific Rim and Saw screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are currently hard at work re-writing the feature film adaptation of the epic video game God of War. The first draft of the script was written by the film's producer David Self (Road to Perdition, Thirteen Days).
In a recent interview in <redacted> the two talk about the project and what we can expect to see. The first thing they mention is that the script wasn't re-written because it was bad, it was re-written because it was outdated,
When they started on the project the first think they felt they needed to do was humanize the main character Kratos,The only problem with that is it was written before Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, 300 and Immortals, and those movies borrowed quite a bit from the God of War stories. It was just a little bit outdated, so we wanted to differentiate it from those other movies.
The whole reason for huminzing character likes this is so that the audience are able to relate to them. Melton goes on the explain,In the same way that Batman was grounded with Christopher Nolan's rendition, we were attempting to do that with Kratos so that when we meet him -- like they're doing in this newest game, which is sort of a prequel to the original -- we're seeing him before he became the Ghost of Sparta, when he was just a Spartan warrior and he had family and kids.
During the interview they are asked about switching gears from low-budget horror to epic big budget features, and here's what they said,In the game... there's that attack from the barbarians and Kratos has to call upon Ares to help him. Really, that's going to be our first act break. Before then, he's going to be mortal, and he's going to have his family. We're going to learn about him and understand how he operates. So it's potentially 30 minutes -- give or take -- of building up this character so that, when he does turn and becomes the Ghost of Sparta, we understand him as a human and we understand the journey that he's going to take. We're emotionally invested, so that it could go beyond just this one movie.
I love what I'm hearing. If they are able to actually pull off what they are talking about, this could be a great movie! As you know, video game film adaptations don't really turn out the way they should, but there might be a chance with this one. Dunstan continues saying,
There's almost an element of relief. When it comes to God of War, we are first-time visitors, and we have a wealth of imagination that has built up from our appreciation for the sword-and-sandals films of our history... We know it doesn't have to be done for a million bucks in a garage. [Laughs] That helps, too. But also, with a bigger movie like God of War, you have to go quite a bit deeper into the character as opposed to a horror film, in which you generally need to get things going; people are concerned that the audience won't have patience, so it's go go go go go.
With God of War, We're going to spend $150 million to make this movie. We really need to understand this character and get behind him and feel his pain and feel his emotions so that, when he is in these giant set pieces, we're in there with him and we're feeling it.' That is a critique of some of these big action films is that they often get too big and just become noise; you're not invested in the character.
He then goes on to explain their plans for Ares and his villainy,There was a recent movie, which will remain nameless, that depicted the main character without any fear. When you do that, how are we supposed to be afraid through him? How are we supposed to gauge anything as a legitimate threat? It's become this dulling element. So with this, we take an intimidating presence such as Kratos, fighting and pursuing a bloodthirsty vengeance trail to the God of War. How do we make that genuinely scary? The man of action must prevail, but it's got to hurt to getting there.
Melton and Dunstan are still working on the screenplay, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they end up with. Brett Ratner was once attached to direct the film, but as of right now no one is attached. In the game, you know, he's immortal, and he doesn't really do much besides raid Athens. So we're trying to build him up a bit more, too, so that he can become a true villain.
