According to George Lucas, after he releases his WWII film Red Tails he is going to retire from making big-budget blockbuster feature films. Mind you, he hasn't really made that many over the years, as the one thing he's been doing mostly is working on "improving" his Star Wars films. He is going to move away from that, and finally do what he's been talking about doing since he got hooked on the Star Wars, and that's make small budget personal film projects much like what his buddy Francis Ford Coppola is currently doing. Here's what he told the New York Times in a recent interview:

I’m retiring… I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff.
Rick McCallum, Lucas' longtime friend and producer added that,

Once [Red Tails] is finished, he’s done everything he’s ever wanted to do… He will have completed his task as a man and a filmmaker.
The Times goes on to explain that "Lucas has decided to devote the rest of his life to what cineastes in the 1970s used to call personal films. They’ll be small in scope, esoteric in subject and screened mostly in art houses. They’ll be like the experimental movies Lucas made in the 1960s, around the time he was at U.S.C. film school, when he recorded clouds moving over the desert and made a movie based on an e. e. cummings poem. During that period, Lucas assumed he would spend his career on the fringes. Then “Star Wars” happened — and though Lucas often mused about it, he never committed himself to the uncommercial world until now."

I honestly think this is the best thing for Lucas. He needs to go back to his roots and tell good small stories. With the amount of money Lucas has at his disposal though, even these small films he wants to make could end up being decent sized movies... if he even really ends up going through with it. I'd love to see this guy finally do what he's been talking about doing all of these years! I just don't think it will happen, though. After all, he's got to do Indiana Jones 5... unless he's decided not to do it, which wouldn't be the worst news in the world.

I guess only time will tell if Lucas is serious about this or not. We'll find out in the coming years when we haven't seen him revamp and re-release his Star Wars films again. If he does move forward onto the next phase of his life and career, I'll be looking forward to seeing what he plans to do with it.

According to director Peter Berg, Hancock 2 is most likely going to happen. Why? I have no idea. I didn't really care for the first film about a drunk superhero who finds his way back into greatness. The movie isn't happening anytime soon, but the wheels are in motion, and story ideas are being discussed. According to Berg Will Smith is coming up with the main idea that they want to go with,

We've been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva Goldsman and myself. We're all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for sequel -- and Will Smith actually had the idea -- so I think it will happen, it's just a question of timing.
Hopefully they don't find the time, but if they do here's the focus of the sequel according to Berg in a previous interview:

We're looking at exploring their relationship prior to when we first met them and seeing a bit of what happened as a prequel. I think we danced around the concept of an origins and we settled on something that is very substantive. That will part of the sequel.

Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies is returning to children's TV with an action adventure drama for the BBC.

Aliens Vs Wizards will be filmed for CBBC at the new BBC Wales drama studios in Cardiff Bay.

The Swansea-born dramatist said: "Writing for children is the biggest challenge of all."

It will be the first new series from Davies since he returned to the UK from Hollywood last year after his partner was diagnosed with brain cancer.

The new series has been created with Phil Ford, who worked with Davies on Doctor Who and children's spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures.

    Science and magic

Aliens Vs Wizards tells the story of two 16-year-old boys - a secret wizard and his scientist friend - who challenge the attempts of aliens to destroy the earth.

"Writing for children is the biggest challenge of all and I think CBBC stands right at the heart of broadcasting," said Davies.

"So I'm delighted to launch this show, a true nationwide collaboration - a Salford commission from a BBC Wales team.

"We're joining genres too - the show's a wild, funny, thrilling and sometimes scary collision of magic and science fiction."

Faith Penhale, head of drama at BBC Cymru Wales, said: "We're so excited to be working with Russell again on this ground-breaking and hugely ambitious drama for CBBC."

Davies began his career in children's TV, writing and producing dramas such as Dark Season for BBC One and Children's Ward for ITV, before moving onto a series of adult award-winning dramas including Queer as Folk and Casanova.

In 2005 he brought Doctor Who back to the BBC after a 16-year hiatus and, as executive producer, oversaw the production of spin-off series Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The success of those series prompted Davies to move to Hollywood in 2009 to develop new projects.

But he returned to the UK in 2011 saying he was putting his career on hold after his partner Andrew Smith was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Aliens Vs Wizards will be a series of 12 half-hour programmes produced by BBC Wales in association with FremantleMedia Enterprises for broadcast on CBBC in autumn 2012.

Details have already begun to emerge about The CW’s newly greenlit pilot for a drama based on DC Comics’ Green Arrow, called simply Arrow.

The project had been described as a modern retelling that sets the superhero “in a new world with an original story that is not based on the comics, leading fans to wonder whether this Oliver Queen would bear any resemblance to the emerald archer of the DC Universe or even the version that was introduced on Smallville in 2006.

But in a just-released casting breakdown obtained by The TV Addict, we see some familiar names and elements from Green Arrow’s seven-decade comics history — including Dinah (Black Canary) Lance, and nods to the villain Merlyn the Archer and, just maybe, Green Arrow: Year One writer Andy Diggle:

Oliver Queen: A 27-year-old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.

Dinah “Laurel” Lance: 28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht.

Tommy Merlyn: 28 years old and devil-smooth, Tommy is a trustafarian like Oliver, a spectacularly rich young man whose life revolves around parties, clubs, liquor and lots of anonymous sex. Unlike Oliver, he can’t seem to understand his former best friend’s sudden change of lifestyle and direction.

Moira Queen: 48 years old, a beautiful woman, Oliver’s mother Moira is a very wealthy woman who is not used to being shaken. Having remarried during the five years that former husband Robert and Oliver were both presumed dead, Moira has had free rein over the Queen billions. Not surprisingly, she’s deeply interested in learning whether or not Robert will also return unexpectedly, to ruin her present marriage and go over the books with a fine-tooth comb.

John Diggle: 35 years old, African-American, Diggle is really, really big, a former military man who served with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan, and has been a bodyguard for hire for the last four years. Hired by Moira to be Oliver’s chauffeur and protector, Diggle soon finds he is trapped in a battle of wits, as Oliver repeatedly eludes his protection. But in fact, Diggle’s primary conflict is one of loyalty — he has to show that he’s working for Oliver, not Moira, before Oliver will give him a smidgen of trust.

Thea Queen: 17 years old (suggest 17-22 years), Oliver’s Lolita-esque sister, Thea was a 12 year old girl when he went on his infamous yachting voyage — but now she’s a celebutante who’s testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Thea loved her big brother with all her heart, and is delighted to have him back in her life — but she’s spreading her wings, and is unprepared for Oliver to become the Bad Cop in the family, restricting her access to boys and drugs.
Created by Green Lantern screenwriters Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and Fringe co-executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, the Arrow pilot is expected to be directed by David Nutter (The Pacific, Game of Thrones), who helmed the pilots of Smallville and Supernatural.

Captain America 2 to start shooting by end of year
    Also SHIELD movie?
Q: I understand you're going to reprise your CAPTAIN AMERICA role.
McDonough: Yeah, they’re planning (to go into production for) for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they’re going to do THOR 2 and as soon as THOR has wrapped, they’ll do CAP 2. Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into NICK FURY because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything.
    Q: Why is that?
McDonough: Because it’ll be me and Sam Jackson. In the real Marvel universe, Dum Dum Dugan is Nick Fury’s right hand man…And I just pray that they have a 1970s setting, because I want to see Sam Jackson with lambchops kicking people’s asses for Marvel universe. It would just be awesome. And to work with Sam would be a treat. We’ve become friendly over the years

The Hangover 3's cast may be close to a big payday, and I say they are worth every penny. THR reports that Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms are finally nearing a deal, after holding out for pay increases for the third installment of the franchise. Sources close to the studio say that the trio is close to getting $15 million each (against backend) to reprise their roles.

This would be a hefty raise from 2009’s The Hangover, which cost about $35 million and paid the leads under $1 million each. The first film raked in an unexpected $467 million worldwide. Unfortunately, the studio had not negotiated sequel contracts for the cast, and for The Hangover 2 they were paid $5 million (plus back-end), which made their take closer to the mid-teens (and counting) when the movie grossed $581 million worldwide. The actors (and director Todd Phillips) are all represented by CAA and have presented a united front during negotiations for the third film.

Warner Bros. plans to change things up a bit for the third film. The story will take place in Los Angeles, and will not focus on the forgotten-debauchery formula of the first movies. Filming is slated to being this summer to ready for a Memorial Day 2013 release.

    Ferris Bueller 2?

    http://technorati.com/entertainment/...ay-off-sequel/

Earlier today, without fanfare, a ten second teaser video appeared on YouTube, starring none other than Matthew Broderick in a white bathrobe, definitely considering playing hooky from work.
Sound familiar as a plotline? It ought to, especially when you hear the music playing in the background as he stares at the screen...
Uploaded by ChuckaChucka2012, the video doesn't quite say there'll be a sequel to the iconic 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but it does state that on Superbowl Sunday and the following Monday, you can "catch the big reveal".
The three other videos in ChuckaChucka2012's YouTube collection are all short clips from the original movie from 26 years ago, all uploaded today as well.
Here's the video, so you can decide... Would this be the mother of all sequels, if true?

It's always possible that this is a company using character recognition to stir up interest in their product, as occurred earlier last year with sightings in the wild of what looked to be a Back to the Future sequel being filmed. The mystery video turned out to be someone in Argentinia catching a company filming a commercial using Christopher Lloyd and the famous DeLorean.

There is a movie being filmed called "Great Scott" which is a parody of "Back to the Future." It's like how "Fanboys" is related to "Star Wars."

According to a recent report from Deadline, X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn is officially on board to direct the sequel to the film!

Fox has just closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn to come back and direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class, with Simon Kinberg writing the script and Bryan Singer back as producer.
This is freakin' great news! He nailed the first movie down, and I was hoping he would come back to develop the next installment of this excitingly cool franchise. He proved in the last film that he has what it takes to make a kick-ass X-Men movie. No other information was revealed, but I imagine that most of the members of the first cast will come back to reprise their roles in the sequel.

In a previous interview James McAvoy (Professor X) said,

I'm very interested to see where we pick up with Charles Xavier, to be honest. In the film we just did, 'First Class,' we got to see how Magneto becomes Magneto, how he leaves Erik behind and takes on the persona of Magneto. We've yet to see how Charles develops into Professor X. I think that's going to be interesting to take a look at.
    Michael Fassbender (Magneto) adds,

[Xavier's] got some major shit to deal with. He’s just been paralyzed and he’s been betrayed by the person who he’s probably come to care about more than anybody else in the world, and he’s the guy who did it to him.
