I was referring more to it actually helping CA with their budget issues. As for a pot 'DUI' I would assume better and cheaper test would be designed since the demand for them would skyrocket.

I'm sure as far as regulation goes, it would be handled similar to cigarettes. You would possibly need a license to grow, and definitely need a license to sell. Probably toss a min age of 18 or 21 to buy on there as well. It would obviously be heavily taxed every step of the way, not to mention the revenue from the alternative industries that would pop up.

Now, the real question is would smoking pot lose its appeal if doing it now 'supports the man'?

I am surprised that the fast food industry or food industry in general isn't lobbying for the passing of a legislation to decriminalize pot. We all know how hungry people get afterwards.

I've always said that.. when faced with spending money to keep real criminals behind bars or spending money to prosecute pot heads the correct decision will be made.

That being said, you would have to be high to think that legalizing weed would solve California's economy. The financial shitter they are in is huge, and legalizing weed would not do much to help them. I'm not saying that they shouldn't do it, just don't get the idea that this is all that stands between them and bankruptcy.

While I think it would be an asset to economic growth, you know it will never happen... because if it ever was legalized then city/employment/dmv/ect... laws/rules would all need to be amended. Would pretty much be a revamp of so many existing rule-sets to say when/where you can/can't smoke.

Well if the decriminalization is retroactive they can release anyone on charges of trafficking and possession, so it will release a huge burden on their penal system as well as the cost on their war on drugs. The police force will be rerouted to fighting actual crime and resources will be conserved.

Not to mention the tax they can put on the product itself and its byproducts, as well as increased tourism, the industry itself and its peripheral industries will create tons of small businesses and agriculture to tax as well as increased spending for the economy there. It would be a pretty successful stimulus to their economy.

I don't see anything changing, people will still buy it from the dealers and none of the money will be going towards anything helpful.

You know how much trouble it is to get shit from a dealer?

Imagine trying to get beer from "some dude" but that dude may not feel like fucking with you today, or maybe that dude's dude didn't come through with the beer.

If this shit was sold in stores, you couple the above with the laziness of the average pot smoker, and you can bet your ass it will be bought from the government.

Sure some people will still grow their own, but not a lot more than do now, and waaaay less people will be trying to hunt their dealer down.

Some people make their own beer too.. I would rather not drink some random asshole's beer when I don't know how strong it will be or if it is even safe.

A legal producer can make weed cheaper, safer, and more consistent than a dealer can. There would be no competition.
