...and the whole "part of the job" analogy is correct, but who cares if it's a job, it's called being a nice person. who cares if she's a fan or an enemy or doesn't know who they are. who cares if you're a musician or a firefighter or a mcdonalds employee, who do you think you are to just say "i don't do that". if he has some inane social phobia that prevents him from talking to people he doesn't know, maybe he should issue a statement saying it was nothing personal, but nope he didn't do that.
I really don't understand what it is in you people that makes you think you have some sort of right to tell them how they should do what they do.

Radiohead is free to sell its album directly from its official website because it is no longer tied to a record label
Are you just angry that you have to do what people want you to and they don't? get the fuck over yourselves.

I'm always amazed by the things that people on bg actually decide to be upset by, all things considered.

what's popular has been decided by how much the DJ's on the radio stations get paid more than the quality of the music for almost a century. Popular hits are determined via how often it's shoved down people's throats until they decide it's cool because "everyone else seems to like it , otherwise it wouldn't be on the radio so often"

Saying a group is popular because their music is great when we live in a world with millions of better singers that don't get the same or higher recognition is bullshit.
Case in point. you talk about how shitty Miley Cyrus's music is yet she's still technically a popular singer.

Now you'll never be able to get free music over the internet!

Honestly, I don't see how Yorke is the douchebag in this. Snubbing fans is a pretty common thing for celebrities, regardless of who their fan base is. I'm sure Miley has done the same thing, and I know Kanye has, so the two of them getting pissy over something they've done themselves is pretty asinine.

Well, you are being pretty selective though.

edit: in all the cases you mentioned though, i don't recall anyone caring about the preacher lol, so you do have a point there.

Fuck that J.D. Salinger for not meeting people so he can answer the same old questions or listening to the same old ass kissing. I bought his book, I demand my right to kiss his ass! Who cares if he feels terribly akward in public settings with people he doesn't know. Where would he be if he didn't have his portion of the $7.99 I spent buying his book. There's no possible way he loves to write even if it's just for himself. He couldn't possibly love it that much. Fuck no, he'd be a broke car salesman that no one ever heard of.

First off, maybe if they didn't want to deal with being rock stars, they shouldn't have sold out on one of the most massive levels ever. I mean, honestly, have you ever listened to their music before "Creep"? They sounded utterly and entirely different, they got one song some radio play, and have spent, what, 15 years now making music that sounds exactly like that one song that got them on the radio.

Who said anything about it having to do with her being rich and famous? What if instead of Miley Cirus, it was the Janitor's daughter? You think they would've reacted differently then? Bet this whole thread would be different then.

Because, you know, it's one thing to say they shouldn't get especially good treatment because they're rich, it's quite another to say they should get especially bad treatment because they're rich, which is what 99% of this thread is.

In fact... saying you'd agree with me supporting her if it was your niece, but disagreeing since it's Miley Cirus would seem to be exactly that...

Me? Crushing the hopes and dreams of children? Never!

I have tried to explain to her that any performer and/or group that does not play their own instruments and write their own songs are pretty much crap, but she refuses to believe me. (And no, I do not count Broadway singers in this since they have to know how to act and do choreography.)
I'm not certain but I was always under the impression she and her dad wrote all her songs.

wow lol, talk about the most ridiculous topic in BG history. first of all, radiohead is a band who would still be making music even if they hadn't achieved widespread success. even if you don't like their music, you must admit they've got some goddam integrity as musicians and artists. there are thousands of great bands who haven't achieved the level of commercial success that radiohead has, and I'm sure many of them would also say "uh, no" to meeting Miley Cyrus- who is obviously full of shit when she says Radiohead are her idols, because she does nothing but prepackaged pop and dance. Secondly, radiohead basically gave away their last album and do not work for a record label anymore. they also make interesting webcasts for their fans, and are known for good live performances. so basically, the whole "but it's der job, they owe it to teh fansss!!!!!!!!!" argument is a crock of steaming shit.

and they aren't the first band to achieve widespread success that was uncomfortable with fame and celebrity. just off the top of my head, Elliott Smith was uncomfortable as well when he started getting noticed in the mainstream for his work featured in Good Will Hunting and The Royal Tenenbaums, leading to an Oscars performance. Elliott killed himself; not necessarily related to the wider success but obviously a troubled person.

now for some real talk: I'd say a sizable portion of BGers have largely mainstream tastes (despite how awkward that can come off as on a MMORPG board). I mean there's of course lots of undeniably nerdy shit, but outside of games/the interweb the general taste of most is lacking. we get tons of threads for shitty tv shows and shitty movies and broish shit like protein shakes and whatnot. radiohead becomes a target of spite because they're hipsters/elitists/make music that's worthwhile and can be cynically viewed as snobs by someone whose iPod playlist is loaded with breaking benjamin, three days grace, 50cent, rhcp, t-pain, akon, etc. so this story is just a ripe opportunity to lash out (probably due to closet insecurities about having shitty taste?) at radiohead even though if a story about /b/ fucking with Miley Cyrus was posted, you'd have 50 pages of "omg epic!!111!!!"

I've seen a lot of heated debates on forums over everything from politics to pop culture to psomething else starting with p. I'm not sure I have ever before seen people with opinions so completely opposed to mine and not an inkling of understanding for their position.

No, they were a semi-punk brit-pop group that mostly did upbeat, active songs. They got popular with a couple of downer songs and made like 10 albums of depressing ass music.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love some Radiohead, but it's really obvious how Americanized they became when the big money showed up, and how much they tried to sound like the songs that made them rich ever since.

also, wtf @ rhcp... sure, Californication kinda sucked, but I'm really not sure how they relate to that statement

I would assume that you were called an obvious troll because their sound has undeniably evolved over the years. I can't even attempt to geuss what you might call americanized about their later work

I don't think Plow has listened to a Radiohead album since OK Computer if he thinks their discography hasn't gone anywhere since Creep. Even then, Karma Police gets just as much radio play and it's a completely different sounding song. Stupid generalization is stupid.
