It's amusing that you think Beckwin is full of shit when Plow has dropped some whoppers in the kiddie pool

I mean, honestly, have you ever listened to their music before "Creep"? They sounded utterly and entirely different, they got one song some radio play, and have spent, what, 15 years now making music that sounds exactly like that one song that got them on the radio.
Point is, there's a ton of people that love Radiohead... except Pablo Honey. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with them for that. Because the music is so different.
So the music sounds all like Creep, except it's different from the album completely. It's one or the other. You can't swim in both directions.

Anytime I see an argument based entirely upon fanboy cocksucking, my bullshit meter pegs out Correction.

Plow might have dropped some whoppers as you put it, but he wasn't engaging in open, obvious cocksucking and trying to push the idea that Radiohead could do no wrong.

If you go back and review Beckwin's posts in just about any topic, you will quickly see that he is of the opinion that anything popular or mainstream is stupid, sub-standard, or generally unacceptable. This makes him an idiot. That's what I take issue with.

Dude takes a shit on people who do strength training, people who like to watch/engage in MMA, bands that ever manage more than one platinum record, and pretty much anything else that more than 5 people in the world like. This is a rediculous premise for an argument, it doesn't suck just because it's popular or you don't like it.

Nobody said that Radiohead could do no wrong. What you just did is read something that said something else entirely and mutate it into what you wanted it to say.

That is how you got from people saying that Radiohead did no wrong in this specific case to blowing it out of proportion and saying that they said that Radiohead never does anything wrong. Maybe you should attack what they do say instead of attacking what you think they... think.

No one said anyone said that Radiohead could do no wrong.

I made the accusation that a person engaged in open fanboy fellatio and tried to push the idea that Radiohead could do no wrong.

Edit: For the sake argument, allow me to rephrase: I accuse Beckwin of open fanboy fellatio and justifying their dick move by their perceived awesomeness in his eyes. Which is still a laughable position to take.

Sure, Radiohead was under no obligation to meet with anyone, even Miley Cyrus. Sure they were under no obligation to even be polite about refusing. But to try and justify that douchebaggery as anything other than douchebaggery is douchebaggery in and of itself. It was still a dick move, and there is no dressing it up as anything else. Just like Miley's reaction was a pretty text book display of reactionary douchebaggery. There's still no justifying it.

    And your reasoning is...?

You made two accusations, that people defending RH in this thread were fanboys, and that they were pushing the idea that they could do no wrong. Let's ignore the superficiality of the accusations for a second and focus on what your reasoning is for both accusations.

Not everyone, I was pretty specific in who I accused of cocksucking. Let me pull some quotes to stand on:

    This is a good one:

Quote Originally Posted by Beckwin View Post

Secondly, radiohead basically gave away their last album and do not work for a record label anymore. they also make interesting webcasts for their fans, and are known for good live performances. so basically, the whole "but it's der job, they owe it to teh fansss!!!!!!!!!" argument is a crock of steaming shit.

and they aren't the first band to achieve widespread success that was uncomfortable with fame and celebrity. just off the top of my head, Elliott Smith was uncomfortable as well when he started getting noticed in the mainstream for his work featured in Good Will Hunting and The Royal Tenenbaums, leading to an Oscars performance. Elliott killed himself; not necessarily related to the wider success but obviously a troubled person.

now for some real talk: I'd say a sizable portion of BGers have largely mainstream tastes (despite how awkward that can come off as on a MMORPG board). I mean there's of course lots of undeniably nerdy shit, but outside of games/the interweb the general taste of most is lacking. we get tons of threads for shitty tv shows and shitty movies and broish shit like protein shakes and whatnot. radiohead becomes a target of spite because they're hipsters/elitists/make music that's worthwhile and can be cynically viewed as snobs by someone whose iPod playlist is loaded with breaking benjamin, three days grace, 50cent, rhcp, t-pain, akon, etc. so this story is just a ripe opportunity to lash out (probably due to closet insecurities about having shitty taste?) at radiohead even though if a story about /b/ fucking with Miley Cyrus was posted, you'd have 50 pages of "omg epic!!111!!!"

The last few posts sound like this to me. Radiohead is awesome and anyone who doesn't like him (and praise his existence) obviously likes shitty music! Kinda off topic when you consider this thread is supposed to be more about the actions that are being taken by the singers as opposed to how good they are at thier music.

The idea that's being argued here is that Radiohead is awesome, and thus they are entitled to act like assholes, and if you don't think they're awesome then you're an idiot who has shitty taste.

This is faulty reasoning, and this is what I'm attacking.

Really laughing at the people slamming Radio Head, assuming it all isn't just trolling. They say 'no' in pretty much the most professional way possible, and they should get crap for it? Lulz indeed. If they had been insulting about it, it might be a totally different story.

Yeah, I've presented a steaming turd of an argument for what it is.

    A steaming turd.

"Yeah, we don't do that." is nowhere near the most professional way to blow someone off.

Not that I'm saying they were under any obligation to be professional.

Without lying and kissing her ass, yes it is. Same thing as saying "I'm sorry, it's company policy." You are confusing 'being an asshole' with 'not bending to the whim of someone else'.

You needlessly conflated two separate things. One is the fight going on between those bashing Radiohead, however lightly it might have been, and those defending it, and the other fight is whether or not what Radiohead did was justified or not, or whether they deserve critique for it or not, which will depend on how much people hate Miley or how little they hate her. They are related in the sense that those saying that what Radiohead did was wrong might also say that Radiohead isn't that "great" to be acting like they're better than Miley and Kanye, to which those who like Radiohead took offense.

You are specifically and intently focusing on one aspect of the fight. You lumped those defending Radiohead as musicians, and those defending what Radiohead did.

And with that, i think that's enough seriousness for a non serious thread.

edit: and as for your argument, well, it is tautological, meaning circular. If we assume that fanboy tends to mean someone who defends something dogmatically, then the second part of your argument justifies itself, that they are saying that RH can do no wrong. Problem is, if you say they are fanboys, then you can logically say that they are saying that RH can do no wrong, or if you say that they are saying that RH can do no wrong, then they are fanboys, it is circular, however, for it to work you have to assume one or the other true, and if you assume neither then your argument is wrong and fallacious. So the only way your accusations work is via assumption, an assumption that no one who disagrees with you in principle will make.

How do you professionally/politely tell someone to fuck off? 'I'm sorry, but...insertexcusehere.' I don't listen to radiohead much, but I have always liked their music. If this was any other person that they had said 'I'm sorry, we don't do that' to we wouldn't even know. Hell, we wouldn't even know if miley cyrus wasn't an uptight douchefuck and threw a fit about it.

It's absolutely absurd that people are even trying to justify miley cyrus's actions. The story should have been written like this: Miley cyrus's manager asked the band radiohead if they would meet her. The band responded with, 'sorry, we don't do that sort of thing.'

That's not even a story. This is fucking retarded.

    ^This.
I don't wholly understand why so many in this thread are under the impression that not letting someone else's interests supercede your own makes you an asshole.
