Today JustPushStart.com has confirmed that Lost Planet 2 for PlayStation 3, which arrives next week, requires a mandatory 4.61GB PS3 HDD installation.

Hopefully this means the next installment won't be as sluggish as the PlayStation 3 port of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.

The story takes place back on E.D.N. III 10 years after the events of the first game. The snow has melted to reveal jungles and more tropical areas that have taken the place of more frozen regions.

The game will center on an ongoing civil war to gain T-ENG (Thermal-ENerGy). The player(s) will assume control of several different factions such as Yuri's Snow Pirates, NEVEC (NEo-VEnus Construction) and many other groups battling the Akrid, a race of large insects native to E.D.N. III.

The Akrid have expanded their armies and return much more powerful in Lost Planet 2.

For those curious, Capcom's Lost Planet 2 will arrive on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows in North America and Europe on May 11, 2010 and in Japan on May 20, 2010.

    To quote:
"Mandatory installation for PS3 games released by Capcom has been a trend lately. We’ve been forced to do mandatory installations for games such as Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5.

You can now add Lost Planet 2 to this list too. The required space for the installation is 4.61 GB, which is almost as big as a one single-layer DVD. Please allow at least five to ten minutes for the installation to finish."

I really don't get why they have mandatory installations when the PS3 has a 1.4gb'ish system cache it could use instead for the common media. Anyways, I don't get the complaints about the controls, they were fine when I played the co-op demo 3 times through.

Oh noooo not mandatory install, its not like I would have installed it anyways if I were given an option.
I mean I guess if you had a 20gb model I would understand being frustrated by mandatory installs, but I honestly dont see a problem with it.

Been playing it for an hour or so, really liking it, but the training is hard!
Also: Titles for playing previous Capcom games are great. My favourite: "I've covered wars, y'know!"

Capcom sucks at online lobbies and if the game is as strict as they say I'd like to have group on BG or something to play through this game. PS3.

Can you play on split screens with a friend and play online at the same time like in Halo 3?

Preordered this, but I don't think I'm gonna pick it up today. With Alan Wake and Red Dead coming out next Tuesday, this just does not seem worth a $60 pricetag. Along with all the other complaints. Reviews are all pretty similar. I know game review sites don't mean much, but I'd rather enjoy this as a budget title I think, like I did the original.

Thing is about the reviews is they sound like if they got real mad after getting their shit kicked in via knockback and so when it came time to write the review they were basically having their revenge(throwing in all shit to cover it up like "this is poor game design 101" and "takes away control from the player".) I don't put a single bit of trust in these reviews simply because that's the image I am getting from them.

I haven't read anything about "bugs" though. Are you using the term buggier to describe the clunky controls or something?

About 10 minutes or so in, they talk about the problems they had with Lost Planet 2.

Got this yesterday and I've been having fun so far (and dying too much in multiplayer..)
My only complaint (besides the stun locking of someone unloading a clip into you) is that they fucked up the controls. It used to be L1/R1 to turn 90 degrees, and R2 to shoot, L2 to toss grenades, but they switch em around and I keep tossing grenades by accident :/

I'm sure if halo/Cod had knockbacks or stuns those people wouldn't complain.

    PC version coming October 15th
    http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/16/lo...15/1#c29907654

Capcom has announced that its recent co-op monster hunting simulator -- or, to be more precise, its recent co-op monster hunting simulator titled Lost Planet 2 -- will arrive on the PC October 15. What's new for this version of the coolly received title? Well, it contains native support for NVIDIA 3D Vision and 3D Vision Surround graphics cards, meaning if you've collected the necessary gadgets, you'll be able to topple the towering Akrid and watch as they fall through your monitor, landing squarely in your half-eaten bowl of Cap'n Crunch. That's how 3D works, right?

Check out the rigorous system requirements after the jump, or, if reading's not your thing, download the Lost Planet 2 preview, and then watch to see if your computer bursts into flames.

    Lost Planet 2 System Requirements

Minimum: Windows XP, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor or over or AMD Athlon x2 Processor or over, 1GB CPU for XP or 2GB CPU for Vista, 13GB free space or over, 640x480 resolution or over, DVD9 Support Drive, DirectX9.0c/Shader 3.0 or over, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 Series or later, ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro or over, VRAM: 256MB or over, DirectSound support (DirectX 9.0c or over), Mouse and Keyboard

Recommended: Windows Vista or Windows 7, Intel Core2 Quad Processor or over or AMD Phenom x4 Processor or over, 2GB CPU for XP or 3GB CPU for Vista, 13GB free space or over, 1280x720 resolution or over, DVD9 Support Drive, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 Series or later, ATI RadeonTM HD4800 Series or later, VRAM:512MB or over, DirectSound support (DirectX 9.0c or over), Gaming Pad: Xbox 360 controller for Windows

    For GeForce 3D Vision Support

Minimum: Windows XP or Windows 7, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor or over or AMD Athlon x2 Processor or over, 2GB CPU for Vista, 13GB free space or over, 640x480 resolution or over, DVD9 Support Drive, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Series or later, VRAM: 512MB or over, DirectSound support (DirectX 9.0c or over), Mouse and Keyboard

I was going to buy it on ps3 last week but I didn't. For the people that played this. How much better or worse is it compared to the first? The co-op is really the only thing I care about in the game.

What the frig are they doing to the PC port to make it double the filesize of the 360 release?

I highly doubt they're putting that nixed content in, or else they just slapped PS3 owners in the face.

I heard the PC version uses tesselation. Maybe that's the reason for such a big filesize?

Anybody bought this POS game for the PS3? Can I solo this shit like MH? I don't have problems w/ difficulty, but when it comes to dealing w/ stupid bots getting their ass killed and as a consequence losing, that'd be a major ass problem.
